Chapter 20:
Several weeks had gone by since Becca and Rose left the tour and it was mid-December. With the end of the tour nearing the shows only got crazier and crazier every night. One snowy day Joe and Kellie decided to take a walk around Wyckoff. The next two shows were in a local Wyckoff theater. The theater was extremely small but the boys wanted to do it for their home town. Joe took Kellie’s hand and led her through the streets of this extremely small town.
“Where are we going Joe?” Kellie asked kicking up some snow.
“Anywhere you want to go babe.” Joe answered.
“It’s your home town.” She protested. Joe opened his mouth to say something but closed it knowing he shouldn’t argue. Kellie laughed as Joe put his arm around the middle of her back and she put hers around his waist.
“So, where are we going?” Kellie asked again smiling. This time Joe laughed and continued walking along side the main road through town. They walked for a while in silence, until Joe’s phone rang.
“Hey mom!” He said.
“How are you Joseph?”
“I’m great mom, how are you?”
“Very well, thanks. Listen, honey, New Years is coming up and…well…”
“What’s up mom? You want us home or something?” Joe asked confused.
“Not exactly, but Kellie’s parents…kind of…want her home.” Joe stopped dead in his tracks.
“What?!” He said into the phone.
“I’m sorry Joe. I feel like we just went through this with Nicholas and Kevin.” Joe didn’t know what to say; he found a bench and sat down, Kellie joining him by his side.
“Mom, this isn’t fair!” He whined.
“It wasn’t fair to your brothers either.”
“Give us until New Years, please.” Joe begged. Kellie could almost tell what he was arguing over and leaned her head against him.
“Until New Years Eve, but the next morning she has to leave. Okay?” Mrs. Jonas said.
“Alright, bye mom. I’ll talk to you later.” Joe pressed end, and looked down at Kellie.
“We have until New Years.” He whispered pulling her into a hug.
The weeks until New Years Eve seem to fly by. The boys were supposed to appear on Dick Clark’s Rockin’ Eve.
“Guys we should probably get ready.” Nick said walking away from the window in their New York City suite.
“Yeah.” Joe said knocking on the door to the bedroom he and Kellie were sharing.
“Come in.” She said. Joe walked in to see her standing at the mirror examining her outfit.
“Wow, you look amazing.” He said coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist.
“Thanks Joe.” Kellie was in a V-neck, white halter dress that came just above her knees, her knee high black UGG boots and a long, read pea-coat jacket that was about the same length as the dress. She left the room so he could change. A few minutes later Joe walked out in black skinny jeans, a white button up shirt, and a red tie. He had on a long black coat as well.
“Aw look! They match!” Kevin joked which resulted in a punch from Joe.
“Ow! God sorry Joe.” Kevin said. Nick was standing in the back laughing.
“I’m thinking we should head over to Times Square.” Kevin said grabbing his navy blue trench coat and his black scarf. Nick threw on his coat and followed Kevin out the door. Joe took Kellie’s hand in his and held every door open for her, helped her in and out of the SUV, and even folded down her chair for her in Times Square. He wanted this to be the best last day they had together. The four of them were sitting in their front row seats waiting for the show to begin, although it didn’t start for about another half hour.
“Kellie, I’m going to miss you so much.” Joe put his arms around her.
“I…I’m going to miss you too Joseph.” She replied. Joe felt a pang in his heart; she had never called him Joseph, unless she was joking around.
An hour or so later the boys had to go up on the stage and do a performance. Kellie stayed in her seat with Big Rob watching guard of both her and the boys. After they sang Burnin’ Up and When You Look Me in the Eyes (during which Joe never took his eyes off of Kellie) they walked back down to their seats and Joe gave Kellie a big hug. They sat and watched several other performers for 2 and a half hour, and then it was 20 minutes away from the big count down to 2010! Every couple of minutes Joe would look down at Kellie, his expression getting sadder by the minute.
“TEN, NINE…” Everyone started counting down the seconds. Joe took Kellie’s had and with every second that went by he would give it a little squeeze. All the guys looked sad.
“COUNT DOWN!” Kellie shouted at them, and they did.
“FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE!!!!” Joe turned to Kellie, cupper her face in his hands and kissed her. They shared the most passionate, loving kiss either of them thought possible. Kevin and Nick stood in silence, biting back tears. Kellie pulled away from Joe, minutes later. She had tears rolling down her cheeks and seeing that caused Joe to break down too.
“I love you Joe.” She shouted over the excited screams.
“I love you too Kellie.” He said kissing her again. The tears were pouring out of both their eyes. Kellie threw her arms around Joe, holding on to the back of his jacket. Joe had his arms around her holding her as close as possible. They pulled away from each other and Kellie went over to Nick.
“Happy New Year Nick,” She said hugging him tight.
“Happy New Year Kel, I’m going to miss you so much.”
“I’ll miss you too Nick. I had so much fun, thank you.” She kissed him on the cheek and walked over to Kevin.
“Happy New Year Kevin,” Kellie forced a smile. Kevin smiled and pulled her into a big hug.
“Happy New Year Kellie, thanks for being so amazing and dealing with us and our crazy Jonasness.” He joked. Kellie laughed a little.
“Thanks for being the big brother I never had, I really appreciated it and I’m going to miss you so much.” She rested her head against his chest.
“You’re so welcome Kell; you always were like a little sister to me. I’ll miss you too.” He kissed the top of her head and she walked back over to Joe.
“I can’t believe this is over.” Joe said.
“Joe, it’s not. I love you and nothing will ever change that.” She lifted his face so that he was looking into her eyes.
“Kellie, I love you too and I promised I’d do anything not to loose you again, but I guess I let you down again.” He took both of her hands in his.
“No Joe, you promised you wouldn’t let Lauren hurt me, and she didn’t. So you never let me down, this is just another bump in the road that we can get through together. Okay?” Joe smiled.
“Thanks Kell.” He pulled her into another hug. They held each other tight and Joe swayed back and forth. The square started to clear out pretty quickly, Joe and Kellie never pulled away from each other, each of them thinking about what Kellie had said knowing though, that they would probably not see each other for a long time.
