The Sixteenth Wish
Chapter Six: Nick’s Point of View
“Why are you here?!” I heard Joe yell. I didn’t even have to look to know who his angry words were directed towards.
“Can you excuse me for a minute?” I asked Ashley.
“Yeah, no problem.” She replied, giving me permission to run over to Joe.
“Okay, well I’ll continue my thought that Miley interrupted later.” I told her and ran over to Joe.
“Just because you don’t want me here, doesn’t mean that everyone else feels the same way!” The girl that Joe had yelled at rudely moments before yelled back at him.
“Whoa. Joe, Alexis, can’t you guys just get along?” I asked them, not wanting another big fight to happen, especially at my birthday party.
“No!” They both yelled with anger in their brown eyes. I rolled my eyes and Alexis noticed and looked at me sympathetically.
“Sorry, Nick. But you know how your brother makes me feel.” She said, first looking sweetly at me but then shot Joe a death glare. He just stuck his tongue out at her. You’re probably wondering why they hate each other so much. To be honest, I don’t have a straight answer for that. Alexis gets along great with the rest of the family. Kevin, Frankie, and I all look at her like the sister we never had. Joe, on the other hand, thanks God every night that she isn’t our sister. We’ve all known Alexis for about ten years now, and I can’t name one time where Joe and her have gotten along. I don’t understand why though. They are a lot alike with how random and crazy they can get at times, and they both love making people laugh. I guess the whole reason for this mini war between the two will be left unsaid. It’s just another one of the world’s many unsolved mysteries.
“Yeah, I know. I just don’t know why.” I sighed.
“Hey, it’s not like it’s your fault.” Alexis said, placing her arm around my shoulder.
“Kiss up.” Joe muttered, and Alexis ignored him.
“Yeah but I just wish your attitude towards each other would change.” I told her seriously, looking directly in her light brown eyes.
“If only wishes came true.” Alexis said quietly, more to herself than to me.
“Whatever, just leave me alone.” Joe said sternly to her.
“Trust me, I will.” Alexis replied and walked away from my brother and I. I just looked at Joe with a half angry, half disappointed look on my face.
“What?” He said oblivious to why I was looking at him that way.
“What do you think?” I asked like it were obvious.
“We don’t get along. You know that, you’ve always known that! Just don’t worry about it.” Joe tried to convince me to drop the subject, and it wouldn’t have worked but we got interrupted.
“Hey, Joe. Hey, Nick.” A familiar voice with a southern accent greeted us.
“Hey, Taylor.” I said back with a smile.
“Hey, babe.” Joe greeted his girlfriend with a hug. Yeah, Joe was dating Taylor Swift and so far, they were a great couple.
“You guys remember Rachelle?” Taylor asked about her best friend she had introduced us to not too long ago. Rachelle was a pretty girl with long, dark brown hair and bluish green eyes. When we first met her, she was a little shy, but she warmed up to us fast.
“Of course we do! Hey Chelle!” Joe said enthusiastically, causing Rachelle to smile.
“Hey Joe.” She laughed and then turned to me, “And happy birthday, Nick.”
“Thanks, and thanks for coming.” I said, trying to forget about the Joe-Alexis drama for a little bit.
“No, thank you. This is just about the coolest party ever.” Rachelle answered enthusiastically.
“Tell me about it!” Taylor added with a smile and a look in her eyes that showed her amazement.
“So,” Joe started with a smile, “You wanna come dance?” He asked all three of us.
“Ooh! Yeah, come on Rachelle!” Taylor said grabbing her best friend’s hand. Joe smiled at her and then looked at me.
“You coming?” He asked. I looked around for a second, then smiled at him.
“Sure, why not.”
