Melissa leaned back against the seat of the car. Her sunglasses covered her angry eyes. She put a peice of gum in her mouth. She rolled down the window and cranked up the music. Almost instantly the car was parked. HEr mom got out of the car and shut the door. Melissa followed and slammed the door behind her.
"I don't see why your so mad," Her mom sadi walking briskly toward the building.
"Oh I don't know, I'm just being forced to travel the world for months at a time." SHe said not looking at her mom, "and I won't get to see my friends. And I'll have to live with guys I've never met for a week" She pulled open the door, " I can't imagine anything I would like better than that."
"Don't worry you'll see your friends and I'm sure you'll become friends with the boys. I hear one of them is your age."
"Mom, I don't wanna date anyone yet. Not after what happened with me and..." her voice trailed. SHe pushed open the door to a room that revealed a couch an air hockey table and a small kitchen-type table. Also inside the room were 6 people each doing something different.
One had curly brown hair he was sitting silently on the couch drumming his fingers on the arm.
Two guys one looking about Melissa's age the other looking about a year older were playing air hockey. One seemed to catch her eye as she scanned the room. He had straight hair and a purple tee with a few pink barely noticable streaks. He was also wearing a pair of skinny jean. Somehow this boy affected Melissa. She couldn't figure out why, but somehow he did. She shook the feeling and looked to see the others in the room. There was a couple holding each other and talking animatedly. Melissa could tell that years of marriage hadn't worn their love down by the smile that spread across the woman's face when the man kissed her cheek. The last person in the room was about 6 years old. He was playing with some sort of action figures on the floor.
"Hello, you must be Ms. Jennings." The man came over holding his wife around the waist with one had and shaking Melissa's mom and Melissa's hand. "I'm Kevin Jonas, this is my wife Denise." He pointed over to one of the boys playing air hockey. He had on a SMET shirt and a white bandana. He also wore skinny jeans and a pair of new chuck taylors."That's my oldest son, Kevin, he's the second." He pointed at the boy who had caught Melissa's attention, "That's the second oldest but the most immature, Joe." Upon hearing his name Joe looked up and caught Melissa's eyes. He winked and wiggled his eyebrows. Melissa rolled her eyes. "That's Nick, the most mature, even though he's the baby of the band." He pointed to the boy who was no longer drumming but now texting. He had a light purple polo on. He also had some sort of dog tag around his neck. "And this is Frankie." He said playing with the six year olds hair. He had stood up beside his dad.
"It's great to meet you all." Ms. Jennings said smiling
"Nice to meet you too, I'm glad the boys will have such a good tour manager." Mr. Jonas said
"I'm glad that I won't be the only woman on the tour bus anymore." Mrs. Jonas said laughing.
"I'm glad that I finally found a job where I can do what I want for a living." They all laughed.
Melissa zoned out. A few minutes later she found someone's arms around her she shrugged them off quickly.
"Gosh, what do you think your doing?" She asked pushing Joe's arms off of her.
"I was giving you a hug...do you not like hugs or something?" Joe asked smiling flirtaciously.
"No...I like hugs...just not from guys I barely know. And also guys who like to flirt with a girl after not even knowing their name."
"So...if I ask you what your name is I am free to flirt with you as much as I want?"
"I didn't say that..."
"What is your name?" He asked changing the subject.
"It's Melissa."
"Good so now I can flirt with you as much as I please...You know my name and I know yours so I can also hug you as much as I want."
"No..you can't...I don't like being hugged. Unless I actually like the person."
"Are you saying you don't like me?"
"That's exactly what I'm saying." She said and she saw his face turn sad. She didn't want to care...but she did. She hated hurting his feelings but she just wanted to...she liked the way she affected him. She wondered if he knew how he affected her.
Joe walked over to his brother and they played another game of air hockey. Melissa sat down on the table and started texting Katie. She wasn't going to be leaving for a while so she decided to do something other than just sit and be bored while her mom talked with her new friends.
She texted quickly then closed her phone. For some reason her eyes began to get heavier. She lay her head down on her arms and dozed off to sleep.
