Chapter 2
That night, I could barely get any sleep. Joe leaving was too catastrophic. Though I just met him a matter of a month ago, I knew I couldn't live without him. I woke up at my normal time in the morning...6:30. I jumped into the shower, drained the facuet from hot water and got dressed in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. I threw my hair in a ponytail...no reason to look pretty anymore, Joe wasn't around. I jogged down the stairs my backpack slung over my shoulder.
"Good morning Hun." Dad said.
"Don't call me that! I have a name." I said, taking an apple from the fruit basket.
"Sorry Alexis." Dad said. I just continued to glare at him.
"Would you like to have some breakfast?" Elizabeth asked.
"No, I have to get to school." I said.
"Who's taking you?" Elizabeth asked.
"I'll have Jacob come." I replied. I immediately took out my cellphone and dialed Jacob's number.
"Hello?" Jacob greeted.
"Hey Jake." I greeted.
"What's up Alexis?" Jacob asked.
"I need a ride to school." I said.
"Okay...I'll be there." Jacob said. Jacob hung up before I had a chance to say bye. I closed the phone and put it back in my pocket.
Ten minutes later, Jacob was at the house. His truck's horn sounded.
"Later." I said. I went outside. I saw Jacob's brand new white truck outside by the road. I smiled and got in. I buckled into the passenger seat as Jacob drove.
"What's up?" Jacob asked.
"Nothin' much." I replied, taking a last bite of the apple. I threw it out of the window when nobody was looking.
"You sound tense and anxious." Jacob said. "Is it because of Joe?" Jacob asked. Hearing Joe's name come out of Jacob's mouth had an ominous ring to it. It scared me and tortured me!
I was silent a moment. "Well he just left! He could have taken me with him! He just got up and left! My dad isn't doing anything to help either! He's cheating on my step-mother!" I explained, hurriedly.
"I could have your Dad and mom hang out with my parents...like go fishing or something, just to get them off of your case and act like they have lives." Jacob said.
"You don't know how amazing that idea sounds." I said, not taking my eyes off of the road. The school came into view.
"We'll do it...how about Friday?" Jacob asked.
"What am I supposed to do while they're out?" I asked.
"You and me could hang out...you could get caught up on sleep, or on homework." Jacob suggested. I nodded.
Jacob parked in the student parking lot. We both got out and walked into the school. I attracted many stares and looks from other students passing by.
"Did Joe really kill some guy?" A girl in my Spanish class asked.
"No. Joe couldn't even kill a fly!" I answered.
"I heard Nick and Christine helped him." a kid at a locker said.
"I thought Joe was trying to kill Alexis for cheating on him with Jacob but then that guy got in the way." Someone else said. I rolled my eyes. Foolish mortals. They didn't know squat. All they knew was that someone was dead, Joe was accused of killing him and now Joe is gone.
I found my locker quickly. I did the combination and put my things inside of it. At this time of morning, Joe would be by my side, holding my hand, ready to take me to Biology. I slammed my locker shut, and saw some girl.
"Oh, gosh Carlie you scared me!" I said, relieved when I saw it was one of Jacob's pack members.
"Sorry. Did Joe really leave?" Carlie asked. I nodded.
"His whole family left." I replied.
"Wow." Carlie whispered.
"News got around fast...people are already making up rumors that I'm a slut and that Joe was trying to kill me for cheating on him with Jacob." I explained.
"That's stupid...And you're not a slut Alexis." Carlie assured.
"I know. I guess I'm just really stressed out that Joe's gone." I said.
"It'll be okay." Carlie said. I giggled.
"A werewolf is telling me this." I muttered.
I got to class right when the bell rang. I took my seat in my normal spot. Though the empty seat beside me, scared me witless. No notes from Joe, Joe wasn't raising his hand getting every question right, he wasn't giving me his crooked smile that I had grown to love. I knew I probably wouldn't ever see that smile again. After the boring class of doing nothing and taking notes and missing Joe, I just stayed in the hallway. I found Jacob talking with his Math teacher.
"Jacob, how about we take the rest of the day off?" I asked.
"What?" Jacob asked.
"How about we ditch school?" I asked.
"I dunno, I got a test in English, I can't afford to fail." Jacob said.
"Who cares you can take it on re-take day!" I said. Jacob nodded.
"Fine. Let's go." Jacob said.
We walked through the school to the student parking lot. We got into the truck and Jacob drove off.
"Can we see what they're doing with the house?" I asked. Jacob nodded, aggrevated, and drove to Joe's house...or his old house. Outside the house by the tree, a quarter of a mile down the road was the two story brick house I called my second home. Beside the road, where the driveway started, was a "For sale" sign. They were selling the house.
