Young, eleven year-old Danielle walked hand and hand through the snow covered park with tweleve year-old Nicholas. They were just friends. But everyone knew more than that. Much more. Abrubtly, Nicholas stopped walking along the snowy trail to their home. Quietly, he whispered...
"Dani. I have something to tell you."
Danielle smiled shyly, staring out at the pink, orange sky. Night was coming. She nodded back towards him.
" I...I want you to know that...I really like you...And I want you to wear this..." He sliped the silver chain necklace that held a rose at the end, smoothly around her neck. 
She giggled, blushing ever so lightly. He smiled.
"Oh Nick, I love it! But...Why now?" She pundered confusingly. She thought he was leaving for Calirfornia tomorrow. So why now would he give her such a gift?
"Dani...I don't want you to ever forget me. Promise me you'll never take it off. That you'll wail for me.." She nodded as tears slipped, racing down the sides of her face like snowflakes on Christmas morning. She never took it off since then...
"Never! I'll never take it off, I promise!" Danielle clung to Nicholas, he as well, enbrased her in his arms. He pulled away, kissing her cheek. He didn't have to say it for her to understand. She knew he loved her with just one look. One glace told it all...
But fate was so unkind the next day. Danielle stood at the barren window. Snow shaped around the houses. She watched as the Jonas family packed their belongings into the truck. Nicholas turned around, waving his little hand a last goodbye. Danielle pressed one palm against the cold glass as the other clutched her necklace. A tear slid down her cheek as it did his. Both were softly mouthing the words: "Don't Forget". She had lost her best friend. Her lost love...
