Sk8er Boi

Abby walked down the hall. High school. It wasn’t really the dreamt-of fantasy that most 8th graders had pictured, but c’est la vie. Yeah, that’s life.
“Hey, Abby.” Her best friend, who was also 15 years old, said when she get to her locker.
“Hey, Keri.” She replied.
“So how was literature?”
“Same old, same old.”
“Horrible?”
“Yep. Uh-oh.”
“Uh-oh what?”
“Turn around.”
Abby turned around to see a boy standing behind her. He was definitely a punk-skater boy type, with his baggy clothing and black faux-hawk. His name was Kevin, and he was in Abby and Keri’s grade, too.

He was a boy
She was a girl
Can I make it any more obvious?

“Hey there pretty!” He said to Abby.
“Excuse me?”
“What?”
“You could be a little more polite.”
“Well, he’s not going to, so let’s go to lunch.” Keri said. Abby rolled her eyes, and walked to the cafeteria with Keri. Kevin was just left there standing, shocked. No girl had ever turned him down like that before.
“Good luck getting her.” His best friend said “She’s a ballet dancer, and they’re often disgusted with us punks.”
“Whatever.” Kevin replied.
Keri and Abby sat down at their lunch table. Abby glanced over to the punk table for just a second.
“Abby!” Keri said. “Are you even listening?”
“What?”
“Don’t tell me you’re looking at the punks.”

He was a punk
She did ballet
What more can I say?

“I might be.”
“Give it up, Abby.”
“Why?”
“Because he’s a freak!”
“Yeah he is. I was playing.”
“Girls,” Keri motioned to the cheerleaders they were sitting with, “Tell Abby why punks are no good.”
“Well, one of them is that they look totally freaky.” One said. Abby secretly actually kind of liked him just a little bit, but she wasn’t willing to admit it to Keri, much less herself.


He wanted her
She’d never tell
But secretly
She wanted him as well

“See that one over there?” Another cheerleader said, motioning to Kevin. All of the others acknowledged that they saw him.
“He’s kinda cute, but none of the good guys wear clothing that baggy.” Another cheerleader said.

All of her friends
Stuck up their nose
And they had a problem
With his baggy clothes

After school…
“Abby! Wait up!” Kevin said.
“What do you want, Kevin?” She replied, turning around to look at him.
“Look, I know I was really impolite to you earlier, and I now realize that I was wrong. And I was wondering if you’re willing to give me a second chance?”
“Kevin, I… I want to, but I have a reputation. What I’m trying to say is… I’m sorry.”
“I understand, Abby.” With that, he walked away.

He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn’t good enough for her
She had a pretty face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth

Five years later…
“Open up.” Abby said to her baby girl. The baby only responded with goo’s and ga’s, but she did open. Abby had gotten married, but then her husband divorced her and she never saw him again, and he just left her with the baby to take care of.

Five years from now
She sits at home
Feeding the baby
She’s all alone

Abby sighed and turned on the TV. It was already set to her favorite channel, MTV. She may have been 20 years old, but she still enjoyed watching MTV. She took a sip of water and walked into the living room. As soon as she saw who was on TV, that water came out of her mouth quicker than a space shuttle taking off from Cape Canaveral.
“Skater boy?” She said to herself.
“And we are here with Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers!” The woman on TV said.
“It is.” Abby mumbled “I have to call Keri!”

She turns on TV
Guess who she sees
Skater boy rocking up MTV

She dialed the phone number.
“Hey, Abby.” Keri said on the other line.
“Are you watching MTV right now?”
“Yeah, what about it?”
“Am I crazy or is that skater boy from 10th grade?”
“It is! Oh my gosh!”
“So I guess I’m not that crazy, then.”
“Hey, we got tickets for the show tomorrow, do you wanna come? We have an extra seat.”
“Sure I’ll come. I just have to get a babysitter.”

She calls up her friends
They already know
And they’ve all got tickets to see his show

“This show is awesome!” Abby said. Their seats were in the second row next to the stage.
“See? Aren’t you glad I talked you into coming?” Keri replied.
“Yeah!”
For some reason, Kevin looked at Abby in-between some of their songs. He amazingly recognized her.
“Abby?” He said. The screams of the girls around her nearly deafened the poor girl.
“Yeah, I’m here, Kevin.” She said.

She tags along
Stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man she turned down

After the concert, he caught her leaving.
“Abby!” He shouted.
She turned around.
“Kevin?”
“I can’t believe it’s you!”
“Same here!” He hugged her.
“Uh, Kevin?” She said.
“Right. Handshakes only.”
He held out his hand for her to shake and she did just that.
“Ha ha it’s okay.”
“You have to meet my girlfriend!”
“Your…girlfriend?”
“Yeah, she’s been wanting to meet you.”
“I’d…love to.”

He was a skater boy
She said see you later boy
He wasn’t good enough for her
Now he’s a superstar
Slamming on his guitar
Does your pretty face see what he’s worth?

“Andrea!” Kevin said.
“Yes?” She replied. Andrea was Kevin’s girlfriend.
“This is Abby, the girl I told you about.”
“Hi, Abby.” Andrea said.
“Hey, Andrea.”
“Kevin, can I talk to you for a second?” Abby said.
“Sure.” He replied.
“Look, I am so sorry I treated you the way I did 5 years ago. I couldn’t see how great you really were, I was just only concerned with my rep and I was totally stupid. I wish there was a way you could give me a second chance.”
“Wow, I wish I could, too. But I’ve moved on already, Abby. I’m sorry.”

Sorry girl but you missed out
Well, tough luck that boy’s mine now
We are more than just good friends
This is how the story ends
Too bad you couldn’t see
See the man that boy could be
There is more than meets the eyes

Abby walked out of the theater after saying her goodbyes to Kevin.
“Kevin.” Andrea said to him.
“Yes?”
“Seeing how much that girl loved you just really touches me. And in the fact that I could never love you like that. What I’m saying is: This really is just a publicity stunt. I am so sorry.”
“It’s okay, Andrea. It’s the same scenario for me. Now I have to go find Abby.”
“Bye, Kevin.”
“Bye, Andrea.”
He ran out of the theater to the parking lot.
“Abby! Wait!”
She turned around.
“What do you want?”
“I want to give you a second chance.”
“But you have a girlfriend.”
“She dumped me.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay, I didn’t really like her anyways. So what do you say?”
“I say…yes.”

He was a boy
She was a girl

We are in love
Haven’t you heard
How we rock each other’s world

“Bye, Kevin.” Abby said “I’ll be backstage after your concert. Then I’ll be at a studio singing that new song we wrote together.”
“Okay, bye. I have to go onstage.”
A simple goodbye kiss marked their departure.
