Chapter I
"Taylor-Nicole!" My mother screamed after me. I had just broken her really expensive vase. Instead of letting her beat me down, I was gonna' run away! I just stormed out of the house, my mother and her broom calling after me.
"Taylor-Nicole!" My mother called again. I didn't look back, I just gave her the finger and kept walking. She was gonna' call the police, but I had to leave her sight. When I got home, I was in for it...no doubt about it! I kept walking I had no where to go, but I knew I didn't want to go back home.
I didn't see the car come towards me. I started walking across the street, it was my friend, Bre's house. I never made it across the street. Everything happened too fast. The car honked it's horn, I stopped and gasped, and I was on the ground. For the brief moment I was awake, I saw people getting out of the car, and to my side. I was in a pair of heavy warm arms in seconds. But I drew a blank when I tried thinking what happened next!
I woke up in a hospital bed. A clock said it was 6 hours from the time I was hit. I turned my head and saw a nurse was in my room changing my IV. "Hello." I greeted, hoarsely. "Oh my gosh she's alive!" The nurse almost screamed. I didn't need to be woken up like that. A doctor came in. "Doc, she's alive!" the nurse said. "Uh, Tracey, if she wasn't alive why would she need her IV's changed?" the doctor asked. The nurse shook her head. It was obvious she was a newbie...a blonde newbie at that.
"So I take it, I'm not dead." I said to the doctor. "Nope, just severely injured. The people who brought you in said that you didn't even bother getting out of the way of their car." The doctor said. I wanted to be in front of their car! I thought. "Well, I was in shock I guess." I said. Well at least I didn't have amnesia.
Suddenly the door burst open, and I saw my mom. She hugged me and kissed my forehead. No matter how much she did this, it didn't suppress the fact that she hated my guts. "Oh my gosh Taylor, I thought you were dead!!" Mom exclaimed. The day of my funeral would be the happiest day of your life! I thought. "I'm sorry Momma." I said. "It's okay Honey." Mom said. "Uhm...Sorry to interrupt but I think you'd like to meet the family that saved Taylor's life." The doctor said. "Of course." Mom said, unenthusiastically.
I crossed my arms as a family of six came in. A little boy, a boy about my age, another boy little bit older than me, another boy a little bit younger than me, an aged woman and an aged man. "Nice to see you alive, Sweetie." the woman greeted, shaking my leg slightly. I smiled. "Yeah for reals, we thought we killed you." The little boy said. "Well I'm not dead. Unless of course this is Heaven... oh wait, why is she here?" I asked, pointing to my mom. The boys all giggled as all the adults gave me a stern look. I sunk lower in my bed.
The doctor made sure I was alright, that my broken arm was secure and I was breathing normal and that I was okay enough to go home. "Your vital signs seem to be okay. You aren't deaf or blind." The doctor said. "Thank you Mr. Obvious." I said. The doctor gave me another stern look of his. Those boys seemed to be enjoying my jokes.
"Anyway, I'm Kevin." The oldest boy with curls said. I shook his hand. "I'm Joe." The next one with straight hair said. "And I'm Nick." The one younger than me said. I shook his hand. "Glad you're still alive." Joe said. Joe was the one who caught my eye the most.
With those last words. Those boys left my room. I didn't know who they were, but they saved my life. I owed them everything! including my life. There was no way I could pay them back for everything they did for me. But they were gone now. And I was still alive.
When I was in the car riding home, a noticed a trail of blood from where I was hit. An outline of my body layed there. Drips of blood followed all the way to where the car used to stand. Oil stains, stained the asphalt. And now so did my blood.
They thought I was dead. I couldn't believe it. A white outline labeled where I "died." Though now they know I was alive. The only thing that was keeping me alive though wasn't my mom's "love" it was the love and respect I gained from that family who saved my life!
