Chapter 8
“Kevin, honey, are you ready?” Kevin snapped back to reality and smiled at his mom. Then he grabbed his suitcases from the ground and headed out to the bus that would be his and his brothers’ home for the next few months. He shoved his suitcases in the bottom cargo hold and then turned to see if anyone else needed help. He saw his brothers and their girls, saying their goodbyes and he scowled. Mona had been gracious enough to say goodbye to him before, not wanting to cause problems today. Stupid Joe and his stupid suggestions. Nisha had been on tour with them. Hell, even Zee had gone on a mini-tour with them. Why did Joe have to go and ruin his plans by running to their dad???
“Why do you look so grumpy?” Nisha asked, approaching. Kevin looked over her shoulder to see Joe attempting to heave his enormous suitcase onto the bus, only to fall flat on his back, the suitcase pinning him to the ground. Normally, he’d have laughed at Joe’s clumsiness, but today, it only served to irritate.
“Why does Joe have to be such an ass???” He growled out. Then he rolled his eyes. “Why am I asking you??? You’re gonna side with him.” He sneered at her. She poked his shoulder hard.
“Did you get too much Haterade this morning with breakfast?” She said. That did it. Her straight, serious face, combined with her verbiage, finally made him crack a smile.
“Did you really just say that to me?”
“Oh, dam.n. I guess I did.”
“You’ve been with Joe too long.”
“Kevin, listen. You know how we all feel about Mona.” Kevin groaned, but Nisha glared at him and he stopped. “I’m not getting into that with you. But, I do think that you should take this time that you have with your brothers to get that bond back. That bond you guys had when I first showed up. I feel like I’m the one that started this split between the three of you, and it was MY suggestion that you three go on the road without girlfriends.”
“I see who wears the pants in your relationship.”
“Now who’s being an ass?” She paused. “Joe only wants to rebuild what you guys had. Sorry that you can’t handle that. Sorry you have a brother that cares about you. Sorry that you’re some poor famous rock star that gets everything handed to him, but still wants more. Sor…”
“I get it, ok?” Kevin interrupted her ranting. “This tour, just me and my brothers. And we will be closer than ever once it’s over.” Nisha smiled and turned to help Joe. “Or kill each other before we’re through.” Kevin said under his breath.
“I can still hear you.” Nisha said, without turning back to him.
