Chapter 19...the FINAL CHAPTER...*sobs*
A light bulb seemed to suddenly go on in Kevin’s mind.
“So I take it that you’re not…” Kevin looked back and forth between Nisha and Joe quizzically. Joe immediately began to shake his head.
“Not…what?” Nisha looked at Joe, and then glared at Kevin.
“Nothing. Forget it.”
“No, Kevin. What am I not?”
“Well,” Kevin began.
“Baby, you said I had to get him out of the restaurant. You didn’t say HOW I was supposed to get him out.” Joe quickly tried to sooth Nisha with a grin.
“WHAT did you say?” She asked through clinched teeth.
“He said you were pregnant.” Kevin filled in. Nisha leapt towards Joe, murder in her eyes. Just before Nisha could kill Joe for his idiotic behavior, the doorbell rang out. Everyone seemed to freeze…who could be coming around this time of night? After what felt like an eternity, but in reality was mere seconds, Nick jumped up from his spot on the loveseat next to Zee to open it. And there stood Pari. Kevin had been too focused on Nisha and Joe to immediately notice who was at the door, but her presence soon overwhelmed him, and his eyes were suddenly fixed on her, unable to look away, or even blink, in fear she might disappear. Kevin felt like he suddenly couldn’t breathe, like his throat had involuntarily constricted in her presence. All eyes turned towards her, just watching her step over the threshold and into the house.
“Hi.” That one simple word left Kevin gasping for air.
“Well, hate to run, but I have to go call my brother.” Zee said, hastily leaving the room.
“Oh, yeah, I’ve gotta take a shower.” Nick was quick in his exit as well.
“I’ve got cookies in the oven.” Nisha headed out of the room, only stopping when she noticed Joe was just staring at Kevin and Pari. “JOE!” She barked.
“Oh, coming. I’ll uh, help you with those brownies.” Nisha sighed, and the two of them were gone.
“So…” He gestured to the couch, and they both sat down.
“How’s it going, being a vampire?” She decided to stay on safe topics, not trusting herself.
“I miss you in my dreams.” He had no intention of that, apparently.
“Well, it’s not that I don’t want to be there. I can’t.”
“I know. But I guess I just miss you.”
“You don’t know me.”
“Then show me what I need to know.” He took her hand in his. This simple act caused an eruption in his chest. The pain of last three weeks seemed to melt away…this is what he’d been aching for, why his heart had been hurting. He’d been missing it. This girl sitting in front of him had been holding it. He just hadn’t known till that moment. “I know I’m a vampire now, but would that stop us from being together?”
“Kevin…” He cut her off with a soft kiss. “Wow.”
“See, now THAT was sweeter than any dream I’ve ever had.” Blush crept up her cheeks. “So?”
“I love you. And I want to be with you, more than anything.”
“Good.” He brought her hand up to his lips and kissed it. “I love you too, my dream girl.”
