Helllloooo people! This is a story I've been sharing with my friends and I decided to let all oƒ you read it! So here's the first chapter, but I promise that it gets better... well if you trust my friends' opinions.
Chapter 1:
Date: June 23rd, 2008
Time: 8:45 pm
Mood: Excited
Music: Summertime Guys by Nikki Cleary
Hey! My name is Kimberly, but call me Kim. Today me and twenty-six other people from our school arrived at Lazy K Ranch Camp. In January, all twenty-seven of us sent in letters to apply for the three-week summer camp. Seventeen of us, myself included, have been coming here to Lazy K for five years. Then, one month ago, we all received acceptance letters back, along with a list of what to pack and information, since the seventeen of us were to be seniors at camp this year, they also gave us the bus tickets for everyone coming from our school. So this year, I’m going to keep a blog (an online journal) of the everyday going-ons. Sometimes I’ll post videos or pictures from my web or video camera or cell phone. I also told my friends to take pictures and videos whenever they can. OK, now that I explained all that, let me tell you about the first day.
Alright, so to start out, our bus arrived around 9 o’clock. Everyone met outside our huge high school, with a few bags each (or twenty where Kendall is involved). We managed to get our bags in the bus really quickly and we all hopped on for the three-hour ride to camp. Now, in case you didn’t realize, 27 teenage kids who are really close friends (most of us that is) on a bus for three hours, equals a hectic and crazy ride. Oh! I took a video of it! Here’s a clip, because the randomness and stupidity goes on for the whole ride.
--
“3 bottles of pop on the wall, 3 bottles of –“ Mina, Sabrina, Cody, Arlene and JP sang jubilantly.
“Enough! Sing a different song!” Kendall burst, immediately regretting it.
“The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and –“ Darren, Luis, Eddie and Tony had duct taped their mouths shut. The rest of the bus cheered at the guys.
“Oh! Let’s play Truth or Dare!” Danielle suggested eagerly.
Soon a bus-wide game of Truth or Dare broke out.
“Alex, truth or dare?” Nathan, Alex’s best friend, challenged.
“Dare!” said Alex.
“Umm…I dare you to yell ‘I love you, sexy thang!’ out the window.” Nate said.
Alex rolled his eyes at his friend and did just that.
“Ivana, truth or dare?”
“Truth.” Ivana said sweetly.
“ Ok, Who’s your crush?” asked Alex.
“TOMO!” Ivana screamed.
All the girls sitting near Ivana cheered, agreeing with her.
“Who’s Tomo?” Alex spoke for all the boys.
“Can’t tell!” Ivana grinned and moved on.
“Kim, truth or dare?”
“Definitely truth.” Kim said.
“Okay, what’s the weirdest dream you’ve ever had?” She asked, grabbing the attention of a few more people.
“Oh gosh, I’ve had so many odd ones, but the weirdest has to be the one where I’m a cow, like in those happy cow in California commercials, and all the cows in the field are singing ‘All Star.’” Everyone burst out into laughter at how random the dream was.
And so, they continued with stupid dares and funny truths. Whenever a girl was asked whom she likes, the answer was always “Tomo!” but no girl revealed who this popular guy is.
--
So you can see, we were insanely hyped up for camp. We ended up arriving at camp a little after noon. We dropped by the main office, checked in and picked up our schedules for class. We were also told to drop our stuff off at our cabin, explore the camp until 2:00 and unpack for an hour. Then everyone was expected at the Theater. So those of us who had been to Lazy K before, knew where things were, so we decided to check out the changes like the re-done sports courts and the activity buildings.
We all arrived back at our cabins around 2 o’clock to find some new faces arriving. Everyone unpacked and relaxed until 3, when we walked to the Theater.
There, Matt introduced us to camp and our counselors. Here’s the list:
Matt- Main Counselor
Kelsey- Founder
Debbie- Secretary
Jennifer- Nurse
Jay- Planner/ Coordinator
Tiffany- Pool Lifeguard
Dia- Pool Lifeguard
Jake- Lake Lifeguard
Sean- Lake Lifeguard
Michelle- Comfort Food Chef
April- Gourmet Food Chef
Sam- Sports Coach
Kyle- Fencing Teacher
Mike- Instrument Teacher
Morgan- General Music Instructor
Aida- Vocals Instructor
Barbara- Dance Teacher
Suzi- Acting Teacher
Tessa- Animal Care Overseer
Alan- Woodshop Teacher
Tia- Archery Instructor
Catherine- Cooking Teacher
Lauren- Horseback Riding Instructor
Then they announced 3 guest celebrity campers that attended Lazy K before they became famous, and they would be helping with a few classes and teaching one lucky Dance Class. Turns out, the guests were the Jonas Brothers! Ivana nearly fainted, being a huge fan and all, but managed to recover herself. The three boys spoke and said “Hey” and “looking forward to these next few weeks” before they sat down on the side of the stage.
Matt then asked all senior campers to stand, and then he volunteered us to come onstage and speak a little bit. Natasha filmed, literally, three sentences of each person.
--
“Hi, I’m Emily! Some people call me Crazy Lady, but I’m not that crazy. This camp is awesome and I know you’ll all love it!” Emily handed the microphone to the next person and walked to the other side of the stage.
“Umm, hey guys, I’m Tony. I got really good at basketball and baseball here. So have fun this summer.” He said with a hint of stage fright in his voice.
“Hiya, I’m Mina! I’ve learned so many skills here and met so many amazing friends. Be friendly and smile!” Mina said in a peppy voice.
“Hey guys, I’m Sammy. Lazy K Ranch Camp is really fun and entertaining. You learn a lot and get to be away from your parents and stuff.” Sammy said and handed over the mic.
“Ok, hi, my name is Danielle. I started playing the trumpet (or whatever you want to play I didn’t know if you wanted to play the instrument you play now, or a different one) here and now I’m first chair at my school. I met lifelong friends here, so I hope you all enjoy camp!” Danielle said with a smile.
“ H-h-Hey I’m Vincent. I got better at acting and talking in front of crowds because of Lazy K. And it’s a great learning experience here.” Vincent said a bit nervously.
“Okay, I’m Cody. Lazy K is like a resort for me. I have fun with my friends and it cures the summer boredom curse!” Cody flipped his hair as he walked to the other side of the stage.
“ What’s up guys, I’m Chris! I love coming here every summer. I can escape school and my controlling parents.” Chris grinned impishly.
“ Hello, I’m Amber. I helped start the fine arts classes here! They are small but awesome classes.” Amber smiled sweetly toward the other seniors.
“Alright, I am Justin. I play clarinet and drums, both of which I learned at Lazy K. The music classes here are great, so have fun.” Justin tossed the microphone to the next senior.
“Hey everyone, I’m Arlene! I found my voice here, thanks to Lazy K Ranch. I’m positive you’ll all have a wonderful time.” Arlene spoke confidently.
“Hey, I’m Edward, Eddie or Ed. I began loving volleyball here. Oh, and I always yell ‘SMILE!’ at my teammates.” Edward grinned crazily.
“So, I’m Ivana! I’ve had tons of fun here at Camp Lazy K. I know you guys will have fun and make friends, so keep smiling.” Ivana handed the mic over with a smile.
“ Hey, hey, hey, I’m Nathan. Some call me Nate the Great but whatever floats your boat. I am a master guitarist thanks to the awesome teachers here at Lazy K.” Nathan winks at the audience.
“ (Laughs) I’m Angel! I enjoy so many of the activities here, but my favorite has to be singing class. I also met my best friend here and learned a few life skills.” Angel passed the mic to the second to the last senior.
“M’kay my name is Alex. Yes, I have big, bushy, curly hair; isn’t it awesome? Lazy K is a fantastic camp that really fits anyone and everyone!” Alex handed the microphone to the final senior to speak.
“OK, I’m last- hopefully not least- Kimberly or Kim or Kimmy, it doesn’t matter. I’ve learned and grown so much at Lazy K; it’s crazy! This is a great camp, so take advantage of all your opportunities!” Kim said as she handed the mic to Matt.
“Now that that’s done, let’s talk about the schedule!” Matt began
--
So Matt went on to explain the schedule.
Here it is by the way:
Wake up: 7 AM
Breakfast: 7:30
Meeting: 8:30
Class 1: 9:00
Class 2: 10:00
Class 3: 11:00
Lunch: Noon
Class 4: 1:00 PM
Class 5: 2:00
Class 6: 3:00
Free Time: 4:00
Dinner: 6:00
Meeting: 7:00
Lights Out: 10:00
Seniors each have 12 classes, while newer campers only have 6. For seniors, the days alternate. So you have the first six classes on day 1, and the last six on day 2, the first six and day 3 and the last six on day 4, and so on and so on.
Also, each camper is assigned one day a week to be on Dinner Duty. That’s when you leave at 5:30 and help prepare the dinner. It helps ease the load of the chefs and kitchen help and lets the campers on duty get dinner early.
Anyways, Matt finished explaining the basics and let go back to our cabins until dinner. Since it was the first day, you took your dinner and brought it back to your cabin to bond with your cabin-mates. Since all of us were already friends, we spent the time to go over our schedules and found we all have almost identical schedules. By the time we finished dinner (we ate quite slowly) and completely unpacked, we had time, so we got a board game from the office and playing Parcheesi a few times.
When we got bored, we still had around an hour left until lights out, everyone is our cabin pulled out a deck of cards. We learned throughout the years that cards can be a lifesaver especially when you’re waiting for something. Right now, as I type, there’s a game of Big Two, Speed, and Go Fish going on.
Some of us are on our cell phones texting or videoing the cabin. Others are writing letters home or writing in their journal. Some are stretched out on their beds with their iPod or a book, or both. One fell asleep, but 3 of us are using our laptops. From what I see and hear, one’s using YouTube, and the other is typing.
Oh! It’s ten o’clock. Time for Lights Out! Everyone is scrambling to clean up and get to bed before someone comes and checks on us, so I suppose I should too!
Goodnight from Lazy K Ranch Camp,
Kim
Tell me what y'all think! Next one will be up soon. :)

Alrightey, here's the next chapter! Right now, I'm still setting things up, but please comment and enjoy!
Chapter 2:
Date: June 24th, 2008
Time: 3:50 PM
Mood: Ecstatic
Music: Come With Me by Special D
Okay, first, I have a picture.
There are 3 desks lined up against a wall with a laptop sitting on each. Sitting at each of the desks were three girls: Ivana, Amber and Kim. Kim was checking her email, Ivana was watching Jonas Brothers on YouTube and Amber was writing home to her parents, brother and foreign pen pal.
That’s the three of us, in our cabin, that use our laptops most of Free Period or after dinner.
Today was the first day of classes. Breakfast was brought to our doors since it was the first morning and they didn’t want us to be late to our classes. We each had a breakfast bar, a banana and a cup of apple juice.
My first class was sports. For the first day, Sam wanted our class to split into groups on the court of our favorite sport. There were around 5 people who gathered on the volleyball court with me. The Jonas Brothers were also in my class and gathered on the baseball diamond. Then Sam had us mess around on the court we picked, to get acquainted to some new people. The first day seemed like it was going to be a breeze.
Next up was Horseback Riding. I was assigned to Suds, a towering Thoroughbred. Lauren had us do the basics like trot, canter, cavalettis, and a few dressage moves. Suds is an amazing horse, but he has a hard time cantering on the correct lead when we canter left, so I’ll have to keep that in mind.
After that, came singing. I knew it would be fun, but it was the best singing class that I’ve taken at Lazy K. The Jonas boys were helping out, which added a bit of pressure. Everyone warmed up, and then sang this exercise from the Sound of Music. Angel and I went first as a demonstration, while Ivana filmed it.
--
“Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do!” Kim and Angel said in perfect harmony.
“Do, a deer, a female deer,” They both sang
“Re, a drop of golden sun!” sang Angel sweetly.
“Mi, a name, I call myself,” Kim sang strongly.
“Fa, a long, long way to run!”
“So, a needle pulling thread,”
“La, a note to follow So.”
“Ti, a drink with jam and bread!”
“That will bring us back to Do!” Kim and Angel sang together.
“Do, Mi, Mi. Mi, So, So. Re, Fa, Fa. La, Ti, Ti.” Angel sang, then paused.
“When you know the notes to sing, you can sing most anything.” Kim sang.
Then they combined them, so the two girls’ voices overlapped. The two were smiling and it was a very natural, harmonious sound that flowed through the room.
--
Yeah, singing is really fun, especially since my friends are in my class. It’s fun singing with people you know, but Aida was bent on getting us to also sing with others that we aren’t accustomed with.
Then it was lunchtime. It was the first meal of camp, and none of us (Angel, Nathan, Alex, Danielle, Ivana and I) were on duty, so we ran up to the senior table that you can only get to via a hidden path behind a tree and some bushes. We got there to find the Jonas Brothers already sitting there. They grinned and asked us to sit with them. Since Ivana loves them so much, she set up a tripod and filmed the whole thing (but I’ll have pity on you and only show you some of it).
--
“So where are all of you from?” Kevin asked conversationally.
“Arcadia, California.” Angel said picking up her hot dog.
“We’re from SoCal and all from the same school.” Alex added.
“Cool. So what classes do you guys still have?” Nick asked only semi-interested in the conversation.
“Well, we still have instruments, acting and dancing today. Tomorrow we have fencing, archery, animal care, swimming, woodshop and cooking.” Alex recited.
“Yeah Alex is psyched about all of us seniors having virtually the same schedules so he can be with Danielle!” Nate teased lightly.
Everyone except Alex laughed at this, even the Jonas boys.
“So what class is your guys’ favorite?” Angel asked the table.
“Instruments and singing” the brothers answered simultaneously.
“Yours?” asked Joe.
“Instruments.” Alex and Nate said.
“Singing.” Ivana and Angel responded.
“Kim?” Alex waved his hand in front of her face.
“I don’t know. It’s a tie between the two.” Kim said with a sheepish shrug.
--
And lunch continued on like this, with comfortable chatter and questions.
Then everyone made the trek to Instruments class. Nathan and I play the guitar, but Nathan is almost a master, whereas I had only played for a year or so. It was the same for Alex and Angel. Alex had been playing bass guitar for years, and Angel had only been playing for around a year. Ivana has been playing the violin since elementary school, so she was amazing at it, and Danielle already had her instrument-the trumpet- as she mentioned yesterday.
During class, Kevin, Joe and Nick went around helping the guitarists. Sadly, I was the only female guitarist in our class. Apparently the boys noticed as well because the commented on how cool is must be and they moved my seat nearer the other girls.
Then came acting class. I love acting. I had gotten into our Theatre Production class in middle school and had the third largest part (or so my cast said), so I was really looking forward to “broadening my horizons.” Somehow, I also got the feeling that I would see the celebrity trio a lot during camp, seeing as I already had 3 out of 4 classes with them. This class though, they only gave the occasional tip. One (hilarious!) example was when Kendall, who finds herself a great actress, did her monologue, they each gave her a tip.
Kevin told her, “Read what you are given and develop from the facts. Don’t use yourself as the character’s background.”
Joe gave her the tip, “Standing out can be good. You should aim to stand out in that way.”
Nick attempted to tone down her ego by saying, “Don’t take yourself too seriously. As we say, ‘Live at the bottom, even if you’re at the top.”
Most of us were trying to suppress our laughter (The key word is trying) when they said these. Suzie said that acting is “believable make-believe.” So we would learn many styles throughout our time at camp.
Next was dancing, Hip-hop, actually. And apparently the one class the Jonas Brothers are teaching our class. So in Hip-hop, we are going to learn some awesome dance moves for the Final Jam. The brothers were joking all through class, making dance class seemed like a free class with some dancing.
And Right now it’s Free Period.
Nathan, Alex, Cody, Sammy and Tony came over and are outside playing monopoly and some card games with some of us from the cabin, on the picnic tables. That’s about it and it’s my turn to play Speed.
Oh! Almost forgot, the Lakeside Jam, the first concert of camp, is tonight at 7:00!
Roughing it the Easy Way!
Kim
Ooh! Lakeside Jam? What's that? xD

Ah, Katie! You're to sweet.
Sadly, Katie=the only reader on JBF for this story.... Whatever happened to my best friends who wanted this posted? ><
Naw, I'm just messing. Hmm should I post Chapter 3 now, or wait a little bit longer? (and I'll be fine... Sorry couldn't resist)

Nee probs! And if I don't end up replying, it's because I've got to bed. It's like half eleven so I'm a bit tiiiired. =] Although I did just get up at eleven this morning, so I shouldn't be too tired. But then, I also get very easily distracted and say I'm going to go offline, but the reality is I'll stay on till about one in the morning. Ahaha.
Chapter 3? GO ON! DO IT! =]
