Chapter 3
"Oh yeah, I love that song.It means so many different things to me. My mum is diabetic and the guy who wrote this song, wrote it about his diabetes... but then you'd know that seeing as you wrote the song!" I said, suddenly recognising the three young men before me. Frankie burst out laughing.
"Aisling these are my brothers Kevin, Joe and Nick. Guys this Aisling, she has been helping me look for you." They smiled their beautiful smiles again as each of them shook my hand, Joe looking into my eyes a moment longer than Kevin and Nick. I couldn't help but smile in return.
"Thank you so much Aisling, we were worried sick." Nick said and Kevin and Joe nodded in agreement.
"Well I couln't just ait there when he looked upset. I wasn't going to let a child wander along a packed beach on his own. I better call your mom again and let her know that Frankie is back with you. While i left another message for Mrs Jonas, I saw Joe chatting animatedly with his brothers. Frankie kept glancing over at me smiling. I hoped i didn't cause their mother to worry.When I returned to the boys Nick asked"So Aisling, tell me about your mom. You said she's diabetic, right?"
"Yes, she's had diabetes since she was 11. I don't know what it's like to go through the shock of having someone diagnosed, because I've grown up with it. People used to say 'oh it must be so tough on you having a diabetic mother' but seriously, just because she has diabetes doesn't make her any less of a terrific mom. Just like it doesn't make you any less of a great musician. My mom and I always say it's just a speed bump and not a stop sign. They all chuckled at that and nick said "so true"
"How does she manage it?" he asked.
"She manages it really well cs she is so used to it at this stage. Obviously she has her days when her blood sugar is either too high or too low. I just make sure that I'm there to love her and support. But that's gonna be a whole lot different when September comes." I said.
"Why is that?" Joe asked
"Cos I'm moving away to go to college. i don't want to leave her but if i want to follow my dreams i have to."
"what are you going to study?" Kevin asked intrigued.
"I want to become a teacher. I love kids and i just think its exactly what I want to do. i babysit for this one family and it pained me to leave them kids as much as it did to leave my family when we came here.
"We??" Joe asked. "As in a boyfriend?"
"Oh no, my friend Jade and I, well it was supposed to be just the two of us, but her boyfriend and two of his friends and their girlfriends ended up coming along aswell. It was great until Jade rang me."
I thought I saw a look of relief flicker over Joe's face, but then his beautiful chocolate eyes were full of concern, as I told the story.We chatted until sunset, until the guys begrudgingly decided it was time to take Frankie home.Nick and I exchanged details as he said he'd like to talk more about my perspective on diabetes.

I spent the next afternoon shopping just so as to give Jade some time to cool down. My phone started to ring, not recognising the number I answered it anyways.
"Hey Aisling, it's Joe." I felt my heart begin to pound frantically against my ribcage, but tried to play it cool.
"Oh hey, Joe. How are you?
"I'm good and you? I was just wondering are you doing anything tonight?
"Not that I'm aware of, why?" I asked, intrigued
"Iwasjustwonderingwouldyouliketograbacoffee?" he said in a rush.
"Excuse me?" I said laughing
"Would you like to grab a coffee with me tonight?" he repeated
"Hmmm let me see" I teased. "Well I guess I could be seen out with you" I laughed.
"Great i'll pick you up at midnight" he said.
"Midnight?"
"Yeah, well we're playing a show and I thought we could go after."
"Yeah sounds great."
"Cool i'll see you tonight so."
"Ok, have a great show, see you later."
I couldn't believe he called me, and that I was going to see him again. I couldn't wait to tell Jade, but I entered an empty hotel suite. All I could do now was wait for midnight to roll on, and my goodness that seemed to take forever!!!!
