Here is chapter one my lovely readers :)
Chapter One
The phone ringing brought Spence out of her fitful rest. She tried to roll over to pick up the phone from the bedside table but found her arm trapped underneath a sleeping three year old. Spence pried her arm out trying to not to jostle Bailey. Blinding reaching for the phone she flipped it open knowing exactly who it would be, “You better have a good reason for calling this early, Joseph Jonas.”
“It’s 9 am Spence. You and Bailey should be up and ready to go for the day,” Joe said laughing at Spence’s mistake.
“Where are you right now, Joe?” She asked, rolling her eyes at him even though he had no way of seeing her.
“We’re in New York, Spence. You know that.” Joe stated in a condescending voice.
“Where do I live Joe?” She replied, mocking his condescending tone.
“You live in Californ…Oh its only 6 am there. I’m sorry Spence I was just so excited to talk to you. Are you hanging out with Jay today?” Joe asked eagerly seeking if Spence was hanging out with his girlfriend.
“Joe it’s Thursday so I am having lunch with Jay, your mom, Frankie, Nisha, and Dani.” Spence said as she got out of bed and made her way into the kitchen in her house to turn on the coffee pot.
“Oh that’s right. It’s your girl’s day today. Well tell Jay I love her and give my mom a hug and tell her we miss her on tour,” Joe said.
Spence could hear noise in the background and questioned Joe about it, “Joseph where are you?”
“Oh I’m in Starbucks waiting for the coffee order. Kevin’s really grumpy this morning so I’m bribing him to be nice with coffee.”
“That’s nice Joe. Tell him to give me a call sometime this morning I need to talk to him about Bailey.”
“Is something wrong with my nephew?”
“No he just misses Kevin and wants to see him. He has also been having nightmares about a masked lady taking him away.”
“Do you think he’s worried about Nadia coming back?”
“He doesn’t know who Nadia is so I don’t think so but there’s no way that she can get near him right?”
“There’s a restraining order out on her but as far as we know she hasn’t returned from France. Hey the coffees here so I have to take off but I’ll tell Kev to call you. “
“Alright thanks Joe. Talk to you later and good luck tonight. Bye.”
Spence hung up with Joe and fixed herself a cup of coffee. Picking up her coffee mug she wandered into the living room to watch the sun rise up over the hills of Hollywood. She never dreamed that her life would be like this. Three years ago she was a college student at UCLA with hopes and dreams. She had learned to put aside her dreams for a friend that needed help.
Kevin had fallen in love with a girl named Nadia at a concert in New York in 2009. She was an exotic beauty and he had fallen head over heels for her. They dated for a few months and had gotten married within a year. Unfortunately Nadia had shown her true side during their marriage, a devious, money-wanting fame monger.
The rest of the Jonas’s had tried to warn him about her but he was too blinded by his love to see her for what she truly was. Four months into their marriage Nadia had become pregnant. Kevin was ecstatic, he had always dreamed of being a father and now he had his chance. Nadia gave birth to Bailey James in December of 2010 and had left Kevin high and dry. She cleaned out his bank accounts and split the country leaving him with a newborn baby to raise.
Heartbroken, Kevin had given his child to his mother to raise while they were on the road. Denise had called Spence to have her help with baby duties. Spence and Kevin had been best friends since the Wyckoff days but had gotten into a fight when Kevin told her he wanted to marry Nadia.
Spence had eventually completely taken over baby duties from Denise and told Kevin that she would raise his son until he had felt fit to come home. That had been three years ago and Kevin rarely even stopped by to see his son.
Spence was pulling her long blond hair into a pony tale when she heard tiny footsteps coming down the stairs. She glanced toward the doorway to see Bailey there clutching Mr. Bear. Spence tilted her head to one side as an invitation for him to join her on the couch. Smiling he walked across the hardwood floors, his little feet pattering and climbed up onto her lap.
Spence wrapped an arm around his tiny frame and ran a hand through his curly brown locks, “So what’s the plan for today Mr. Bailey James?”
“We see Gamma Denise today, Spence!” he shouted eagerly. Denise and Paul Sr. lived on the other side of town and frequently stopped by to see their favorite grandson. “That’s right. Why don’t you go watch some cartoons and I’ll fix you some nice breakfast,” Spence asked him.
“O’tay Spence! I’m watch Arthur!” Bailey grinned up at Spence before racing off to watch his favorite aardvark.
Spence just shook her head and walked back into the kitchen to make some pancakes for her favorite little man. She was in the middle of flipping her Mickey Mouse shaped pancake when her phone rang indicating that Nick was calling.
“Hey Fro Man!”
“Hey Spence, sorry about Joe calling so early. I tried to stop him but he ran off before I could remind him about the time zones,” Nick said, trying to apologize for Joe’s mistake.
“You think I would be used to it by now,” Spence mused into the phone, successfully flipping the pancake onto a plate.
“So how is my favorite nephew?” Nick questioned.
“Oh he is happy as can be watching Arthur and getting ready to eat some pancakes. We are having lunch with your mom and the girls today. Anything you want me to pass onto Dani?” Spence remarked before Nick could interrupt her with a message. The Jonas boys were just too predictable.
“No, I already talked to her this morning. Her and Jay are flying out next week to spend some time with us. We have a few down days and they wanted to see us,” Nick reported.
“And I’m sure that you had no inclination to see them?” Spence laughed, knowing that the boys had begged their girlfriends to come, “Hey is Kevin with you?”
“No, it’s his turn to do the radio interview. I’ll tell him to call you as soon as he’s done though,” Nick assured her.
“That would be great, bye Nick,” Spence said hanging up the phone.
Bailey toddled into the kitchen with his chubby hands on his stomach. “Is beakfast ready! I so hungy,” he whined sounding just like Kevin.
“Sure thing buddy. What would you like on your pancakes?” Spence asked him.
Bailey put a finger to his chin and pretended to think. “PEANUT BUTTER!” He burst out bouncing up and down in his chair.
Spence just had to laugh at his antics. “Sure thing Bails,” she said taking the peanut butter out of the pantry and setting it down on the table. A phone call once again interrupted the day but this time Bailey was the first to react. He jumped out of his seat and rushed to pick up Spence’s cell phone, “Hi Daddy...”
