hey everyone, new readers and old.

if you're returning to read the threequel...welcome back and thanks for reading! we both hope that you enjoy the threequel as much as the other two parts to the story!

if you're a new reader...welcome! i'm katie, and amanda and i have been writing together for a while now, and this is the third installment in our little series we have going here. you can probably kinda pick up the story from right here if you don't want to read the original story and the sequel, but if youd like to read them and you have some free time, you can go here:

The Course of Love Doesn't Run Smooth http://jonasbrothersfan.com/Community...

Until Distance Do Us Part [Sequel] http://jonasbrothersfan.com/Community...

If you don't want to read either of those...i'll fill you in with a little bit of background information. Amanda and Joe just got married, and Katie and Nick...well they're together and happy. They're all on tour right now, the summer after Amanda graduated college and the summer before Katie starts college. That's about all you need to know...I think.

So without further ado...here it is! Enjoy, and comment, because we LOVE comments, and they do inspire us to post faster!!! (since we've already got....quite a few chapters written...haha)

chapter uno

“Amanda, where did you put the t-shirts?” Katie asked as she dug through Amanda’s bag, pulling out all sorts of things as she searched. “Amanda?”

Katie turned around to see that once again, Amanda had fallen asleep on the couch of the tour bus that they had been living on for the past month. Katie rolled her eyes as she pulled a pen out of her bag and tossed it lightly so that it landed right on Amanda’s face.

“Ouch,” Amanda said as her eyes shot open and she lifted her head up slightly, looking over in Katie’s direction to see her standing there with her hands on her hips. “What was that for?”

“Because this is the third time today I’ve had to wake you up,” Katie said. “Apparently someone had a late night.”

“We got to the hotel late, and then we had to get up to come to this venue place early,” Amanda said with a yawn as she sat up on the couch.

“We got to the hotel at like 1, and we got up at 9,” Katie said. “That’s 8 hours of sleep. Well, for me and Nick at least.”

“What are you implying Miss Brown?” Amanda asked Katie with a raised eyebrow.

“I’m implying that you’re a newlywed,” Katie answered simply. “And let’s not get into an argument about this and go back to the reason why I woke you up in the first place...where did you put those t-shirts?”

“They’re on your bunk,” Amanda answered. “With the fabric markers. Like I told you three times when we got on the bus earlier.”

“Yeah well I’m forgetful,” Katie said as she ran into the bunk room on the bus, and sure enough found a bag with 2 white t-shirts and a package of fabric markers. She grabbed them, and then ran back into the living room of the bus. “Okay, we only have like a half hour so we need to get these done quick.”

“Why do we only have a half hour?” Amanda asked, pulling out her cell phone and looking at the time. “It’s only 3, and their interview gets done at 3:45, and the sound check thing starts at 4:30. We have like an hour and a half.”

“Do I need to remind you of that time in Omaha where they refused to let us into the venue?” Katie asked as she dumped the contents of the bag onto the floor. “They thought we looked like fans trying to sneak in.”

“That was really funny,” Amanda said, laughing at the memory. “Especially when the guy didn’t believe me when I told him I was Joe’s wife.”

“He was pretty thick,” Katie said, shaking her head as she stretched out the t-shirt. “It’s a good thing we keep our passes now, instead of giving them to Joe to hang onto. But I still like to be there to meet them when they go in, just because it makes things a whole lot easier than trying to convince a security guard that we’re supposed to be there.”

“You’ve got a point,” Amanda conceded. “So we’re making these shirts...what exactly are we going to put on them?”

“I don’t know, I suck at being creative,” Katie answered with a shrug. “I thought you might be able to come up with something.”

“Katie, the shirts were your idea,” Amanda said. “I’m just going along with your plan because I think it will be funny.”

“Well you’ve gotta come up with something,” Katie said, furrowing her eyebrows. “And you have to have some sort of idea.”

“I have an idea, but it could be problematic if we are recognized tonight,” Amanda said.

“We have those sweet new sunglasses, so no one will figure out who we are if we wear them,” Katie assured Amanda. “So if your idea is mildly inappropriate, it will be okay.”

“Actually I was thinking we could make shirts that would make fun of all of the teenies there,” Amanda said with a chuckle. “You know, like, you could say ‘I caught Nick’s love bug again’ or some sh*t like that.”

“So basically we make the lamest shirts on the planet?” Katie asked, laughing.

“Well if you’re so hot on the inappropriate shirts idea, we could go with that too,” Amanda said. “I mean, I’ve always wanted to wear a shirt that says ‘save a tambourine, bang a Jonas.’”

“You would,” Katie muttered, shaking her head and uncapping a marker.

“I would wear a shirt like that, or I would bang a Jonas?” Amanda joked. “Because whichever you’re referring to, you’re right, I would.”

“As long as the Jonas you’re talking about is Joe,” Katie said. “Okay, so your shirt problem is solved, but what about mine?”

“Like I said, ‘I caught Nick’s love bug again’ is a valid option,” Amanda said, earning her an eye roll from Katie. “Or you could use mine, but substitute drum for tambourine.”

“Yeah but I’m not exactly banging a Jonas,” Katie said as Amanda began to write on her shirt with the pink fabric marker.

“Eh, close enough,” Amanda replied with a shrug. Katie laughed and began to write on her shirt too, and the two girls worked in silence for about ten minutes as they both tried to write on their shirts without messing up.

“I like it,” Amanda muttered as she finished the last letter of her shirt before capping the marker and tossing it next to her. She picked up her shirt and held it up, and Katie looked up and nodded her head in approval. “So what are we doing with these?”

“Bring your big purse and we’ll put them in there,” Katie said as she finished up the last word on her shirt. “Then right before the show starts we’ll sneak away and go up to our seats. You got the tickets, right?”

“Yeah, Big Rob hooked me up this morning,” Amanda said, pulling two tickets out of her back pocket. “Floor seats, first row, right on the end.”

“You know, there are a lot of girls out there who would sacrifice a lot of things for these tickets,” Katie said as she picked up all of the fabric markers off of the floor of the bus and threw them back in the bag.

“Yeah, well, those are the same girls who grab at my husband’s crotch every night when he’s performing,” Amanda said as she opened up her purse and put the two shirts into it. “So I don’t feel bad that we have these tickets and they don’t.”

“How do you really feel?” Katie asked with a laugh as she grabbed her cell phone off of the couch and they walked out of the bus together.

“Well those grabby mc grabbington slutty mc slut sluts can keep their hands off of my man,” Amanda said in a tone that told Katie she meant business. Katie tried her hardest to fight back a laugh, but it didn’t work, and she let a chuckle escape her lips.

“You laugh, but how would you feel if it was Nicholas’s crotch getting grabbed at every night?” Amanda asked, raising an eyebrow in Katie’s direction as they walked to the door outside of the venue where they would be meeting Nick, Joe and Kevin in a few minutes. Katie didn’t answer, to which Amanda responded with “exactly.”

Within a few minutes they had reached the side entrance to the venue, and outside was a black SUV. As the two girls approached the door opened, and out climbed Kevin and Stephanie, who had accompanied them to their interview earlier while Katie and Amanda elected to sleep on the bus. They were followed by Joe, and finally Nick.

“Hey baby,” Joe said, walking up to Amanda and wrapping his arms around her. He gave her a quick kiss before grabbing her hand and following Kevin and Stephanie through the open door into the venue.

“How was your nap?” Nick asked as he gave Katie a quick kiss on the cheek while they followed Amanda and Joe, and Big Rob followed behind them.

“I didn’t really sleep much, because I’m reading this really good book and it was just so intense,” Katie admitted, and Joe laughed quietly to himself in front of them as Amanda rolled her eyes.

“Well my nap was good,” Amanda said, turning around so that she was walking backwards and facing Nick. “That couch on the bus is quite comfortable.”

“I’m glad one of us thinks so,” Katie said, “but I really prefer a bed. That one at the hotel last night was prime. And the pillows were so soft, too.”

“You say that about every bed in every hotel we’ve stayed that on this tour,” Nick said as they walked into the arena where they would be playing, to see a fair number of men continuing to build the elaborate stage that they had set up.

“Well I’m just easy to please,” Katie said with a raised eyebrow in Nick’s direction. Nick opened his mouth to respond, but was quickly interrupted by Joe.

“So anyways, the sound check is early tonight, and then they’re ordering a bunch of pizzas for us for dinner,” he said loudly, glancing at his phone to check the time. “So we start up in a half hour, then we have our quick meet and greet, then dinner is at 5:30.”

“5:30?” Katie asked skeptically. “Amanda, I think we might be needing to go get some food during the show, because otherwise I’m not gonna make it through the night.”

“I think you’re right,” Amanda agreed, making knowing eye contact with Katie. “Maybe we’ll find an ice cream place or something.”

“And you’re going to miss the show?” Joe asked, pouting his lips slightly.

“Joey baby, we see you guys every night,” Amanda said, giving his hand a squeeze. “And plus, it’s not like there’s much to see from backstage anyways.”

“I guess you have a point,” Joe said. “But you’re still missing the show.”

“I’m sorry baby,” Amanda said, “but I’ll make it up to you later,” she added with a wink and a giggle. Joe leaned over to whisper something in her ear as the boys were called onto the stage to get ready for their sound check party, since they would soon be letting the fans into the building and they had to check their instruments before they allowed them in.

Katie, Amanda and Stephanie went back behind the stage to where there were many people running around, setting things up and getting things ready for the show later. The girls had invited Stephanie in on their plan for that evening’s show, but since she was leaving for a few days to visit her parents the next morning, she figured she should hang out backstage during the performance.

The three girls hung around out back through the whole sound check, and then afterwards went into a large room that they had brought a television, several couches, tables and chairs, as well as food. Katie immediately went over to the table with the food and grabbed a plate full of chips and salsa, along with a Gatorade out of the cooler, and then plopped down on her own couch and propped her feet up. She grabbed the television remote off of the table in front of her and flipped on Sportscenter while Amanda and Stephanie each got some food and sat down on couches as well.

Within an hour, the boys had returned from their meet and greet, and the rest of the band, along with some of the set up crew, had joined the girls in the room with all of the food. They had just gone through over 20 boxes of pizza, and everyone was getting ready for the actual show as the venue was filling up above them.

“Hey Amanda, I think we should go find someone to give us directions to an ice cream place so we don’t get lost,” Katie said, glancing at her cell phone and seeing that it was almost 7 and almost time for the show to start.

“I like that idea,” Amanda said, lifting her legs off of Joe’s lap and swinging them off of the couch they were on. She stood up and walked a few steps towards Joe, and leaned down and kissed him quickly. “Good luck tonight, babe. Don’t fall and break anything. And don’t jump too low when you’re--”

“I know, avoid the microphone stand when I’m jumping,” Joe said with a grin. “You tell me every single night.”

“I’m just stressing that it’s important you don’t hurt yourself,” Amanda said, giving him another peck on the lips. “I’ll see you after,” she said with a wink, before turning and walking towards Katie and Nick.

“So I’ll meet you on the bus after?” Nick asked.

“Something like that,” Katie said with a shrug, giving him a quick kiss for luck before joining Amanda as they walked out of the room together. As soon as the door had shut behind them, they quickened their pace as they walked down the hallway.

“So basically we have to find some way upstairs three floors,” Katie said as Amanda pulled the shirts and sunglasses they had stashed in her purse. As they walked down the hallway they found a bathroom, and the two girls quickly ran into it and took off the shirts they were wearing, pulling their new ones on.

“I bet this would be good to be spotted in by some paparazzi,” Amanda said as she pulled her hair back away from her face, before sliding on her sunglasses and checking out her look in the mirror.

“Yeah, almost as great as if they saw me wearing my shirt,” Katie said as she pulled her hair back into a ponytail. “At least everyone knows you and Joe have sex all the time. But Nick’s girlfriend...wearing a shirt that insinuates banging him...”

“It’d give them something to blog about for weeks!” Amanda exclaimed with a laugh as they both looked in the mirror one last time before walking out of the bathroom and into the elevators across the hallway that would take them up to the floor where they needed to be. As soon as they reached the third floor up, then pulled off their lanyards that had their backstage passes on them and slipped them into Amanda’s purse. They walked through a door and joined the dwindling crowd of people standing next to a merchandise table.

“Come on, I can hear music,” Amanda said, and Katie and her quickly walked into the arena, where there were thousands of teenage girls screaming their heads off as the opening act played on the stage. They walked down what seemed like dozens of flights of stairs before reaching the floor, where their seats were. They showed their tickets to three different people through the course of making it to their seats, making sure they were careful to keep their sunglasses over their eyes and their heads down as they walked past huge groups of teenage girls.

“Finally,” Katie yelled over the loud music that pulsed through the arena. “Finding these seats was a workout. Get me that Gatorade I put in your purse.”

“You stashed a Gatorade in my purse?” Amanda asked as she opened it up and sure enough, saw a half empty blue Gatorade bottle in there. Katie grabbed it out of her hands as she pulled it out.

“I knew I’d get thirsty,” Katie said as she opened it and took a swig of the liquid inside, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand afterwards. “I almost put some food in there, but I figured you’d get mad at me if there were crumbs.”

“You’ve got that right,” Amanda said as her and Katie swayed to the beat of the music. Within a few minutes the band was done, and the stage was going through the nightly change so that the Jonas Brothers could begin their show. Katie and Amanda sat in their chairs waiting patiently as the girls around them chatted loudly and excitedly, waiting to see the boys take the stage.

“You know, let’s remind Nick and Joe that the message screen is a horrible idea,” Katie said quietly to Amanda in between the screams that traveled through the arena as another ‘scream if you love Jonas’ message popped up.

“I think that’s a great idea,” Amanda said as the lights suddenly went down in the arena, and the screams of thousands of girls shook the building as the tune to ‘We Will Rock You’ started to play. Amanda and Katie looked at each other and laughed as the girls behind them and next to them screamed as loud as they possibly could while the opening chords to Paranoid started playing. The two girls looked up, knowing that the boys were being lowered onto the stage this time around, and sure enough a large platform appeared to be coming down from the ceiling as lights flashed all around.

As Nick began singing the opening lines to the song, so did almost every other girl in the arena, and they sang along with him to every word. Katie and Amanda found themselves joining in once Joe began to sing his part, and soon they were dancing and singing along to the music just like everyone else.

“We should’ve done this a long time ago,” Katie yelled over the screams at the end of the song. “This is way better than backstage.”

“You think?” Amanda yelled back. “So when do we let them know we’re here?” She continued as the tune of Hold On started to play, and screams echoed through the arena.

“Let’s wait a song or two,” Katie said. “And when Joe comes over here, just lift up your sunglasses. Then look down at your shirt.”

“Good plan,” Amanda said, before the two girls began to sing along to the words of the song again. They did the same through Hold On and Hey Baby, and soon the tune changed over to BB Good.

“I think we should do it during this song,” Katie yelled as Joe began to walk towards their side of the stage, singing the opening verse of the song. “He’s coming, so get ready!”

Joe walked over to their side of the stage, where Amanda and Katie were standing with wide smiles on their faces, singing along. Joe walked right in front of them, stopping about three feet away and looking down at the crowd as he sang. Amanda lifted up her sunglasses so that her eyes were visible as Joe swung his head around and looked right at her.

“You’ve gotta BB Good to--” Joe began, stopping suddenly as he made eye contact with Amanda and she smiled. His eyes widened in shock for a moment as she laughed and looked down at her shirt, while Nick and Kevin continued to sing the background vocals to the chorus in confusion. Joe followed her eyes down to her shirt as she pulled her sunglasses back down over her eyes, and he began to laugh as he read what her shirt said before continuing with his singing. “We’ll be happy as can be, just gotta BB Good to me, baby.” Joe continued to laugh to himself as he looked at Katie’s shirt, before turning his back on them and walking over to the other side of the stage to continue with the song.

“That was awesome!” Katie yelled, high-fiving Amanda as Joe sang the second verse to the song.

“He was totally confused,” Amanda said as she laughed. “And then the shirts.”

“It was just priceless,” Katie said as the chorus of the song picked up again and they continued to sing along. As the song ended, Joe over to where Nick was playing his guitar and pulled his microphone away from his face for a second to whisper something into Nick’s ear. Then they both turned and looked over where Amanda and Katie were standing, and Katie blew Nick a kiss, which the young girls surrounding them were completely oblivious to. Katie and Amanda giggled as they watched Nick blush while Joe walked away, and the band began to play the chords to World War III.

“Yes, my favorite song,” Katie said as she began to move to the beat of the song. Amanda laughed at her and rolled her eyes as Nick walked in their direction while playing his guitar.

“Tonight I walked into the bedroom,” Katie sang loudly in unison with Nick, and all of the other girls in the arena as well. Through her sunglasses she made eye contact with Nick and he winked at her while he continued singing.

“Oh my God, he just winked at me!” The girl behind Katie screamed loudly right in Katie’s ear as Nick looked away, continuing to sing. Katie bit her lip as she looked over at Amanda, who was already laughing uncontrollably. Katie joined her in a fit of laughter as Nick walked back towards the other side of the stage.

“Best night of the tour so far?” Amanda asked loudly, and Katie nodded as she sang along loudly, and Amanda joined in, as the two girls enjoyed the rest of the show.

I don't know how I feel about the lack of comments on the first chapter. But I think I will blame it on the fact that it was only the first chapter. So... now... Let's get going on these comments. Please?

Okay? Okay! Excellent.

Chapter dos

“Pretty sure ‘bestest’ isn’t a word” Katie commented as Amanda laid down the tiles on the Scrabble board.

“Pretty sure it is” Amanda mocked. “It is something that is better than the best…. The bestest.”

“Just because you use it doesn’t make it a legitimate word” Katie laughed. She decided that there was no arguing with Amanda about if it was a word or not.

“Pretty sure college degree trumps high school diploma” Amanda said in a sing song voice. “So pretty sure the word stays.”

“Pretty sure we should stop using the phrase pretty sure” Katie laughed. She laid ‘r-e-a-k’ down under the ‘B’ from Amanda’s word, forming ‘break.’

“Who put down ‘bestest’ as a word?” Nick asked as he walked towards the front of the bus where Amanda and Katie were playing.

“Who do you think?” Katie asked sarcastically. “It’s the same person who tried to say that p-a-r-o-n-a was the way to spell piranha.”

“I still think that its weird that you know how to spell piranha” Amanda laughed. “But I’ve learned to accept that you just know weird things. And I’m okay with that, and I love you for it.”

“I hear all this talk about love, and yet I haven’t heard the name Joe mentioned” Joe commented. “And considering that my wife is one of the people partaking in this conversation, that is shocking. So Amanda, is there anyone else that you love?”

“I love Stephanie” Amanda replied as though that was the answer Joe was looking for. “I think she needs to come back on tour. I miss her.”

“You miss her?” Kevin whined. “I miss her!”

“I understand that she is spending time with her family but I think she should spend time with us” Amanda continued.

“And what I think is that you guys should call this game over” Nick said looking at the board. “It’s pretty much filled up with made up or misspelled words.”

“That’s just how me and Amanda play Scrabble” Katie explained.

“What do you suggest we do instead Nicholas? Amanda asked as her and Katie started pulling away the game tiles.

“I have a few ideas” Joe whispered into Amanda’s ear. Amanda rolled her eyes and smiled in amusement as she lightly swatted Joe on the shoulder. “I don’t understand why you are hitting me” Joe defended. “I was meaning that you could make me some lunch, because I am pretty hungry.”

“What am I? A seventeenth century European housewife?” Amanda questioned with a laugh. “I think you are perfectly capable of making yourself a sandwich.”

“But baby they are always better when you make them” Joe insisted.

“He is right Amanda” Nick commented. “You do make the best sandwiches. I don’t know what it is but it’s true.”

“You know your girlfriend is sitting right next to you right?” Katie asked, pretending to be upset. “And that she can hear everything you are saying.”

“I’m sorry baby” Nick cooed. “Your sandwiches are delicious too.” Everyone, Katie included laughed at Nick’s mocking before turning back towards Amanda. “So about those sandwiches…”

“Are we eating lunch on the bus today?” Amanda asked tugging at the zip up hoodie that Joe was currently wearing. “Because I don’t want to make food and then ten minutes later the bus pulls up at a restaurant.” Joe looked questioningly at what Amanda was doing, before shrugging his jacket off of his shoulders, slightly confused. Once it was off of his body, Amanda slipped her arms into it and pulled it around herself.

“First of all, mom and dad sent me up here to tell you that we are eating on the bus for lunch. We don’t have time to stop anywhere today. We aren’t going to make it to the next city until about midnight as it is, so it’s a day full of driving” Kevin explained. “And second of all, Amanda did you totally just steal that jacket from Joe? While he was wearing it?”

“I think she did” Joe noticed.

“I was cold” Amanda replied casually. “And if you want me to make your lunch, I need to be warm.”

“Joe, go find another jacket” Nick said quickly. “I like turkey” he said towards Amanda.

Amanda laughed as she stood up from the bench she was sitting on and walked the step and a half towards the ‘kitchen counter.’ She opened the cabinets and pulled out the loaf of bread and took out ten slices of bread. She piled them on a plate before reaching towards the small refrigerator. Amanda found the turkey, tomatoes, cheese, mayonnaise and mustard and set it on the counter.

A few minutes later, there were five plates sitting on the ‘kitchen table;’ each had a sandwich fixed to the recipients liking and a handful of Sun Chips. Amanda walked to the back lounge and let Kevin, Joe, Nick and Katie know that their lunch was ready.

“Do y’all want me to make you some lunch?” Amanda asked towards Denise, Kevin and Frankie.

“You don’t need to put yourself out” Denise replied.

“It’s really no trouble” Amanda insisted. “All of the stuff is still out. It will only take me like two seconds.”

“Then sure, thank you sweetie” she said.

“Not a problem” Amanda responded. “What do you guys want on your sandwiches?”

“Turkey and cheese for me please” Frankie said looking up from the comic book he was reading.

“I’ll take a turkey sandwich, no cheese and a little bit of mayonnaise please” Denise requested. “And Kevin likes everything on his.”

“Three turkey sandwiches coming up” Amanda said with a smile as she turned on her heel and walked back towards the front of the bus. She stood in front of the counter and she heard her friends walking towards the front of the bus, where their food was waiting for them.

Amanda felt two hands wrap around her waist and a body press against her back. “You’re pretty great you know?” she heard Joe whisper into her ear.

“Because I made you a sandwich?” Amanda laughed.

“Because you made everyone lunch” Joe clarified. “You are like the lunch making master.”

“It’s a gift” she said as Joe kissed her softly on the cheek. “Now go eat your lunch.”

“I was gonna wait for you” he said.

“Hey Nick, I think you can eat Joe’s sandwich” Amanda said over her shoulder towards the table where everyone was sitting.

“I’m going, I’m going” Joe said unwrapping his arms and diving towards the table, to prevent his brother from eating his food.

Amanda finished making the sandwiches and loaded all of the supplies back into the refrigerator. She piled the sandwiches on plates and added a handful of chips to each plate. After carefully balancing the plates on one arm, and grabbing three bottles of water with the other, she walked towards the back of the bus and passed the food out.

“I think I am going to take a nap” Amanda said after all the paper plates were thrown away. “I don’t know why but I’m suddenly really tired.” She excused herself and walked towards her bunk.

“I think I’m gonna go lay down too” Joe said, ignoring the amused faces of his brothers and Katie.

“Now what?” Katie asked as they sat around the table.

“I’m gonna go call Steph and probably fall asleep too” Kevin decided. He pulled his cell phone out of his pocket and had it up to his ear before taking two steps.

“Nick… Katie” Mr. Jonas greeted as he threw away his trash from lunch. “I was going to do some work out here at the table, but the back lounge is free if you want to go back there.”

“Alright Mr. Jonas” Katie said standing up.

“Just be quite because Denise and Frankie are sleeping in their bunks” he said as he started to spread his paperwork out across the table.

“I didn’t realize it was nap time” Nick whispered as they walked past the bunks where everyone was sleeping.

They reached the back lounge of the tour bus and closed the door so that they wouldn’t wake anyone up. Katie sat down on the couch that was along the back wall of the bus and curled her feet up under her body. Nick picked up his acoustic guitar that was resting on it’s stand next to the couch and sat down next to Katie.

“Now what?” He asked as he started strumming lightly.

“I want to learn to play the guitar” Katie said suddenly.

“Okay” Nick said unsurely.

“Hmm… If only I knew someone who could play the guitar” Katie said tapping her finger on her chin in thought. “Oh wait, you know how to play the guitar don’t you?”

“I know a few songs” Nick smiled.

“Teach me” Katie said simply. She reached her hands towards the guitar resting on Nick’s leg and started grabbing for it. Nick laughed and surrendered the instrument.

“Well for starters you are holding it backwards” Nick said causally. “You hold the frets with your left hand and strum with your right. Unless you are left handed and have been lying to me.”

“My bad” Katie said flipping the guitar into the proper position. “What’s next?”

“First thing you need to know is the names of the strings” Nick began. He put his finger on the bottom string, “This is the E string” he moved his finger up to the next string, “this is the B string, then the G, D, A and another E string” he continued pointing the each string on the guitar. “Got that?”

“E, B, G, D, A, E” Katie repeated. “Every Boy Gives Dumb Advice, Eh?” Katie thought out loud, coming up with an acronym to remember the name of the chords.

“If every boy gives such dumb advice maybe I shouldn’t be advising you on how to play” Nick pouted. Katie laughed before leaning towards him and kissing him softly on his pursed lips.

“If there was another string that was called the N string, I could make it ‘except Nick’ but there isn’t so… we can both just know that I mean except for you” Katie reasoned, earning a chuckle from Nick.

“So the next thing is to learn some chords” Nick instructed. “A C chord is the first one. See these metal line things?” Katie nodded her head and Nick continued, “those are frets. So to play a C chord, you need to put your finger on the third fret of the A string, or the second string from the bottom. Another finger needs to go on the second fret of the third, or D string.” He waited for Katie to get move her fingers accordingly before continuing. “And then put a finger on the first fret of the fifth string.”

“What about the other strings?” Katie asked as she contorted her fingers to hold the strings in the proper places.

“You play them open” Nick explained. “Or without pressing anything down.” Katie nodded her head and strummed the chord for the first time. Nick cringed at the sound that did not sound like the chord she was attempting to play.

“That wasn’t right was it?” Katie noticed Nick’s expression.

“Try curling your fingers more” Nick instructed. He helped her curl her fingers so that they were only touching the strings they were meant to. He motioned for her to strum it once more and Katie smiled when she saw Nick nod his head, liking the way it sounded.

A while later Katie had learned all of the basic chords. She then decided that her fingers hurt and that she was done for the day. She made Nick promise that they would continue lessons for the remainder of the tour, which he agreed to with a laugh. Just as she leaned to put the guitar back on its stand, the door to the back lounge opened and Kevin stood in the doorway.

“Guess what I learned Kevin!” Katie said excitedly. “Nick taught me the guitar.”

“What did he teach you?” Kevin asked as he took a seat on the chair opposite the couch.

“I can show you” Katie said reaching for the instrument again. She positioned the guitar on her thigh and positioned her fingers. “This is a G” she said as she strummed the chord.

Kevin’s face looked confused for a moment, and Katie looked down at her fingers. “That sounded really good. It had good sound quality but I think it--”

Nick leaned over and whispered something in Katie’s ear. “I meant gee, that’s an F chord” Katie said quickly covering her mistake.

“Oh, I must have misunderstood you” Kevin chuckled. “I thought you said it was a G.”

“No, silly” Katie said with a straight face. “I can play a G though.” She moved her fingers into the proper position and strummed the chord.

“Very nice” Kevin commented. “Maybe by the end of the tour we teach you one of our songs and you can join us on stage.”

“Psh, I would steal the spotlight away from you” Katie said confidently. “So that might not be the best idea.”

“I think the teenies would prefer the boys to you” Amanda said appearing in the doorway to the lounge. “I mean, you’re pretty and all but..”

“But the…what was it… slutty mcslut slut grabby mcgrabbingtons would prefer Nick and Joe and Kevin?” Katie asked with a laugh.

“Pretty much” Amanda giggled, ignoring the questioning looks she was receiving. “Don’t worry about it boys. It is nothing you need to concern yourself with. Just… Don’t stand right at the edge of the stage.”

Katie and Amanda laughed and once again, Nick, Joe and Kevin had no idea what was going on. “Do you ever feel like the two of them live in their own world?” Nick asked his brothers.

“All the time” Joe answered. “All. The. Time.”

“But you love us anyways” Katie said in a sing song voice.

“Yep. They do” Amanda said casually.

Everyone shared a laugh and Frankie walked into the lounge, rubbing his eyes, signaling that he had just woken up.

“Hey Frankie” Amanda said sweetly. “We were just about to watch a movie. Do you want to join us?”

“What movie?” the nine year old asked, clearly still waking up.

“How about Rudy?” Nick chimed in looking through the selection of DVDs.

“What do you think Frank?” Amanda asked as he walked towards the couch and squeezed in between Amanda and Joe.

“I like that movie” he said.

“You heard the boy” Amanda cheered. “Pop it in.”

Nick obeyed her instructions and put the disc into the player and navigated through the menus to get it to play. Amanda reached behind her head and pulled a blanket off of the back of the couch and spread it across her, Frankie and Joe. Joe looked at Amanda and then down at his younger brother, before averting his gaze back towards Amanda. He winked softly, causing her to smile, before he leaned in softly and kissed her temple quickly.

“I’m so glad I came on tour” Katie said suddenly as she snuggled against Nick, while Kevin sat on the other side of her. “It’s all my favorite people in one place. It’s so loving!”

chapter tres

“Hey Nick, what about this?” Amanda asked as she pulled a dress off of the rack and held it up. Nick turned around and furrowed his eyebrows as he gave it a once-over.

“She won’t like the flower things across the top,” Nick stated as Amanda sighed and shook her head, putting it back on the rack.

“Nick, you say no to everything,” Amanda complained as they continued to walk around the store. “We’ve been shopping for an hour and you haven’t found one thing. And we’re in New York for God’s sake.”

“But it’s her birthday, and I feel like I should get her something special,” Nick said as he stuffed his hands into his pockets. “And nothing here is special. It’s just plain.”

“Well then we’ll go somewhere else,” Amanda said. “But before we do that, I need to find her a present. How about this shirt?” Amanda asked as she reached past Nick.

“That’s not really her...style,” Nick said, and Amanda rolled her eyes as she withdrew her hand.

“Nicholas, you don’t like anything I pick out for her, do you?” Amanda asked as they began to walk out of the store, with Big Rob following them a few feet back.

“It’s not that I don’t like it, I’m just worried she’ll never wear it,” Nick answered. “Then you’ll be all upset because she doesn’t like your present, and she’ll get all upset because you’re upset, and then it’ll just be a mess.”

“Well it would have been nice if she’d given me some direction when I asked her what she wanted for her birthday,” Amanda said as they walked down the sidewalk towards the next store. “I mean at this rate, I’m about ready to wrap up few boxes of condoms, put a bow on them and tell you two to have at it.”

“Amanda,” Nick said loudly, looking at her with a nervous expression on his face. “Can you not go around saying things like that? We’re in public, and I don’t want rumors to start, especially ones that aren’t true.”

“There’s nobody around,” Amanda said, rolling her eyes at Nick’s nervousness. “And I was just joking. Calm yourself, Nicholas.”

“I am calm,” Nick responded as he pulled open the door to the next store and allowed Amanda to walk in ahead of him. “I just don’t want people blogging about me having sex when I’m not. I have an image, you know.”

“Yes, Nicholas Jonas, angel child,” Amanda said, smirking. “If only the world knew...”

“There is nothing for the world to know Amanda,” Nick stated simply as he walked away from her towards the jewelry cases that were lining the back wall of the store. She followed him, eyeing some watches that were in a case that she walked by, and making a mental note to herself to remember the brand for Joe’s birthday present.

“How about this?” Nick asked as he pointed to a necklace in the case. Amanda looked at the silver chain, lined with blue and green stones. “And there’s matching earrings, too.”

“I don’t think she’ll like it,” Amanda answered with a straight face. Nick glanced up at her with a defeated look on his face. For a moment she held her straight face, before erupting into giggles and sticking her tongue out at Nick.

“You suck,” Nick said as he shook his head.

“On occasion,” Amanda said with a shrug, and in response Nick pretended to gag. She continued to giggle as a woman walked over to them behind the counter and asked if they needed assistance.

“You sure she’ll like those?” Nick asked as the woman pulled the necklace and earrings out of the glass case and held them out for them to look at.

“I think she’ll love them,” Amanda said.

“Then I’ll take them,” Nick said to the woman as he pulled out his wallet. He handed her his credit card and then turned to Amanda. “So now I’ve got these, the Red Sox tickets for this weekend, and--”

“You bought her Red Sox tickets?” Amanda asked in disbelief. “To a game in Boston?”

“Only because they’re playing the Yankees, and she hinted over and over again that we just happened to be in Boston over the same weekend that they were playing them,” Nick answered.

“Yeah sure,” Amanda said as the woman handed Nick the bag with the boxes of jewelry in them while Nick signed the receipt. “Just admit it Nicholas, you’re whipped.”

“I don’t understand why you feel the need to call me Nicholas so much today, Amanda,” Nick responded with a raised eyebrow as they walked back across the store.

“Because now you’re my little brother,” Amanda said as she linked arms with Nick. “And it seems more older sisterish to use your full name.” He opened his mouth to respond, but she quickly continued, cutting him off, “and way to avoid my accusation.”

“I am not whipped,” Nick muttered as they walked out of the store. The sun had broken through the clouds and Amanda squinted as she reached into her purse and pulled out a pair of sunglasses to slide over her eyes.

“Where to now?” She asked as they walked along the sidewalk, with Big Rob a few paces behind them.

“Want to grab some lunch?” Nick asked, motioning towards a restaurant up ahead of them. Amanda nodded and followed him towards the door. The three of them walked into the restaurant and were seated at a table in the back.

“So when do we have to be back at the venue?” Amanda asked as their waiter handed them menus, then turned and walked away. She pulled out her phone and looked at it, seeing that it was just after 12, and there were no new text messages in her inbox.

“I told Joe we’d be back by 2,” Nick answered as he flipped through his menu. “I think he and Katie were going to go to the gym next door to it and play some basketball.”

“Then this worked out well,” Amanda said as she looked through her own menu, trying to decide what she wanted. They sat in silence for a few minutes, looking through the food choices, before their waiter returned with their drinks and took their orders.

Nick and Amanda talked quietly about the plans for the upcoming week as they waited for their food to arrive. Within about fifteen minutes, Amanda’s sandwich, and Nick’s and Big Rob’s burgers came. They ate fairly quickly, and Nick picked up the tab for the three of them once they were done.

“Guys, it looks like there’s some paparazzi outside,” Big Rob noted as he looked towards the front of the restaurant. Nick let out an annoyed sigh as Rob turned to face them. “The car is parked about 3 blocks away, so I can go get it or--”

“No, it’s okay,” Amanda quickly interjected. “They won’t bother us too bad. And it’s not like it’s a swarm of teenies. Then I’d be scared.” Big Rob chuckled along with Amanda as they made their way toward the front.

“So Amanda, since there are people around now, no condom jokes, please,” Nick said quietly as they reached the front door. “Don’t say anything you don’t want printed all over the internet.”

“You sound like my mom right now, Nicholas,” Amanda said with an eye roll. “And I will keep my mouth shut, don’t worry.” Nick nodded in approval as Big Rob pushed open the door and they walked out into the summertime heat of the city.

The photographers began to snap pictures of them as Nick pulled his sunglasses over his eyes while they walked down the sidewalk. As a few of them yelled out questions hoping for an answer from either of them, Amanda suddenly got an idea.

“Nick, my foot hurts,” Amanda said as she fell a step behind him. “I think you need to carry me back to the car.”

“What?” Nick asked, turning his head slightly, but before he could say anything more she placed her hands on his shoulders and launched herself up in the air, wrapping her legs around his waist. Nick instinctively reached back and hooked his arms underneath her as she hung onto him, and he tried to keep his balance as he straightened his back. “Amanda, what are you doing?” Nick hissed as he turned his head. He tried to shake her off by dropping his arms slightly but she just held on tighter.

“Letting you give me a piggy-back,” Amanda said, a big smile plastered on her face as the paparazzi quickly snapped photo after photo of them.

“Amanda, not here!” Nick whisper-yelled as he this time successfully shook her off of his back. She stood up as Nick quickened his pace to get away from her a bit, crossing his arms over his chest and keeping his head down as the paparazzi hounded around them.

“Amanda, aren’t you married to Joe?” One of the reporters asked as she also sped up to catch up to Nick, so that she was once again walking next to him.

“Is there something you two aren’t telling us?” Another yelled just as they approached the car that they had arrived in. Big Rob unlocked it and opened the door to the back seat, and Amanda and Nick quickly slid into the open door as he shut it behind them.

“Amanda, I thought I told you--” Nick began before he was cut off by Amanda.

“I know, you told me not to say anything I didn’t want everywhere,” Amanda replied with a grin. “So I didn’t.”

“Then what was that?” Nick exclaimed, throwing his arms up in the air.

“That was me being funny,” Amanda said as she slid comfortably into her seat and buckled her seatbelt. “Loosen up Nicky,” she continued as she reached across the car and ruffled his curls. “I was just being funny.”

“Can’t you be funny when it’s just us?” Nick asked. “Like, at the hotel or on the bus or something?”

“I’m funny all the time, Nicky,” Amanda said, her grin still present on her face. “And you just gotta learn to accept that. It’s not even a big deal, everyone knows I’m married to your brother and I was just goofing off.”

“Well I thought everyone knew I had a girlfriend, but that didn’t stop those rumors from earlier this summer that I was dating that 23 year old,” Nick responded matter-of-factly.

“That’s because you’ve never actually said that you have a girlfriend, Nick,” Amanda reasoned. “There’s a big difference between assuming you have a girlfriend, and knowing that I’m married to your brother.”

“I guess,” Nick said after a moment’s pause. “But I swear, if people start rumors that you’re cheating on Joe with me--”

“Then who gives a crap?” Amanda finished for Nick. “Seriously, don’t worry about it Nick. It’s not a big deal!”

“Okay,” Nick said, knowing that this was a battle he was not going to win. He sighed and looked out the window as Amanda reached for the radio control that was between them.

“Let’s blast some tunes on our way back,” Amanda said as she hit the on button, and turned up the volume before she could tell what song was playing.

You’re vain, you’re games, you’re insecure, you love me, you like her

Amanda quickly looked at Nick, who cringed at the loudness of the music that blasted through the car. She reached out and hit the off button, ending the song just as quickly as it had started. They both sat in silence for a few seconds, neither one of them knowing what to say.

“Well, this is awkward,” Amanda said finally, biting her lip as she looked over at Nick. He kept facing forward, an unreadable expression on his face. Then, after a few more seconds of silence, he turned his head slightly and looked at Amanda, before bursting into laughter.

“Out of all the songs,” Nick managed to sputter out as he laughed, and Amanda began to laugh along with him. They laughed together for several minutes, until they reached the parking garage of the venue. Big Rob drove in as their chuckles subsided, and within another minute they had parked and were climbing out of the car.

Nick gave the gift he bought for Katie to Big Rob and asked him to hold it until they got to the bus after the show that night. He then walked with Amanda into the venue to the lounge room that they had set up for before the show.

“I’m gonna run to the bathroom, then I’ll be back,” Nick said as Amanda opened the door and walked into the room. She saw Joe sitting on one of the couches with the television remote in his hand, and on another couch he saw Katie lying on her back, with an ice pack on her ankle.

“What did you do to yourself this time?” Amanda asked as she kicked off her shoes and walked across the room, putting her hands on her hips as she looked at Katie with a raised eyebrow. “Better yet,” she said, turning to Joe and giving him the same look, “what did you do to her?”

“Nice of you to blame your husband,” Joe replied, putting the TV on mute. “And for your information, I didn’t do a thing. This one’s all on her.” Amanda looked between the two of them for a moment, as Katie gave her a guilty shrug. She then walked over to Joe and gave him a quick kiss, before sitting down next to him and leaning back against the couch. As she did this, she looked at Katie, waiting for an explanation.

“I ran into the wall,” Katie said quietly.

“You ran into a wall,” Amanda stated, with no hint of a question in her voice. Katie nodded slowly as Amanda shook her head. “What are we going to do with you?”

“Well in her defense, the wall jutted out weirdly,” Joe said, and Katie nodded in agreement. “And her fall was quite graceful. She managed to land on her butt.”

“I’m...so proud,” Amanda said, trying to hold back her laughter as she looked at Katie, who was adjusting the ice pack on her foot.

Everyone looked up as the door opened and Nick walked into the room. At first he looked over at Joe and Amanda and offered them a wave, before he turned his attention to Katie. He looked at the ice pack on her foot, then immediately turned his gaze back to Joe.

“Joe, what did you do?” Nick asked with annoyance in his voice as he walked over to Katie. He looked at her foot again, then at her sympathetically.

“Why does everyone blame me?” Joe asked. “For your information, she did it to herself.”

“Katie, really?” Nick asked. Katie nodded and lifted her feet up, motioning for Nick to sit on the couch where they were before. He sat down, and she rested both of her feet upon his lap. He picked up the ice pack to see that her ankle was just a little swollen.

“She ran into a wall,” Amanda explained for Katie. Nick looked at Amanda questioningly, then back to Katie.

“Okay, so we were playing basketball, and Joe shot the ball and it missed the hoop completely,” Katie began, and at this both Nick and Amanda snickered. “So then I ran after it, and I wasn’t really looking and this piece of the wall stuck out weird. So I ran into it and twisted my ankle and fell. No big deal.”

“Katie, if it was no big deal your ankle wouldn’t be swollen,” Nick reasoned, but Katie just shrugged.

“It wasn’t swollen when I hurt it,” Katie said, “but I was losing to Joe, somehow, and I didn’t want to give him the glory of beating me. So we finished the game.”

“You let her keep playing?” Nick asked Joe as he ran his fingers along Katie’s ankle, watching her wince slightly as he touched it.

“Nick, baby, it’s just an ankle,” Katie said as she swung her feet off of Nick’s lap and stood up gently. “It’ll be fine by tonight.” She gingerly took a few steps, before sitting back down on the couch.

“I guess this is what happens when you leave the klutzes alone together for a few hours,” Amanda said, and Nick nodded in agreement as Joe turned the volume back up on the television.
