Chapter 1: Weird Conversation
~Rosalie (POV)~
I sighed. It was the last day of the summer, which meant that the next day, September 1st, would be my first day of school. Senior Year. I had just come back from my summer soccer training camp in Arizona the day before, and I was exhausted. Two months of running five miles every morning and having soccer games almost all day under the burning sun had drained practically all my strength.
I had spent the whole day today out shopping for new school clothes with my two best friends, Lily and Sharon. Lily is one of those girls who really likes to shop, and dragged Sharon and me around the mall for three hours straight. I really needed some sleep, but I didn't want to go to bed yet. It was only 9:30.
I decided to go on the computer. I groaned as I dragged myself from the comfortable position I was lying in on my bed and trudged over to my Mac, a present from my parents. I turned my Jonas Brothers screensaver off and checked my email. Nothing new. I thought i was just wasting my time, and was about to turn my Mac off, when it beeped. I had an Instant Message. The sender of it, YANKEE_FAN, wasn't someone I knew, but I responded anyway.
YANKEE_FAN: HEY! HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN A WHILE! HOWS LIFE IN OHIO?
JBLUVR_24: UM, I THINK UR TALKING TO THE WRONG PERSON. THIS IS ROSALIE.
YANKEE_FAN: OH, SORRY! I THOUGHT YOU WERE MY COUSIN MANDY!! YOUR SCREEN NAMES ARE SO SIMILAR. SHES A JONAS BROTHER FAN AS WELL...
JBLUVR24: COOL
YANKEE_FAN: MY NAME'S NICHOLAS JONAS. BUT YOU CAN CALL ME NICK. I JUST MOVED INTO NEW YORK CITY FROM LOS ANGELES. WHERE DO YOU LIVE? IM NOT TRYING TO BE NOSY, I JUST WANT TO GET TO KNOW SOME NEW PEOPLE!
JBLUVR24: NEW YORK, OBVIOUSLY. THIS IS A NEW YORK DATABASE. WOW, LOS ANGELES. CLASSY!
YANKEE_FAN: MY DAD WAS A FILM PRODUCER IN LA. BUT HES MAKING A MOVIE HERE, AND HE IS THINKING OF STAYING PERMENANTLY HERE. I PERSONALLY WOULD LIKE TO STAY BECAUSE I THINK NEW YORK IS AWESOME!
JBLUVR24: NEW YORK IS PRETTY COOL. YOU SHOULD. WHAT PART OF NEW YORK ARE YOU LIVING IN?
YANKEE_FAN: MANHATTAN. IM PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT SCHOOL TOMORROW, WHAT ABOUT YOU?
JBLUVR24: I LIVE IN MANHATTAN TOO! NOT REALLY. I GO TO MONROE HIGH IN EAST MANHATTAN, AND THERE ISNT ANYTHING TOO EXCITING ABOUT IT.
YANKEE_FAN: REALLY???? IM GOING TO MONROE HIGH TOO!!!! THAT IS SO COOL!!!! :)
JBLUVR24: HAHA WOW THATS A COINCIDENCE. WHAT GRADE ARE YOU IN?
YANKEE_FAN: IM GOING TO BE A SENIOR.
JBLUVR24: ME TOO!! ILL PROBABLY SEE YOU TOMORROW THEN!
YANKEE_FAN: YEAH! I HAVE A LOCKER IN B HALL, #358
JBLUVR24: OKAY THIS IS GETTING PRETTY CREEPY. MY LOCKER IS #364 IN B HALL, WHICH IS GOING TO BE ONLY A FEW DOWN FROM YOURS.
YANKEE_FAN: I HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU ON THAT ONE. THAT IS WEIRD.
JBLUVR24: ILL DEFINITELY SEE YOU TOMORROW THEN. IM GETTING REALLY TIRED, SO I THINK IM GOING TO GO SLEEP. SEE YOU TOMORROW!
YANKEE_FAN: COOL THEN. ILL COME TO YOUR LOCKER TOMORROW! BYE!!!!!
JBLUVR24: BYE
I turned off my computer and began to ponder this really odd conversation. I had, out of chance, met a guy who had just moved to New York, and who also just happened to go to my school. Nick was in the same grade as me, and also with a locker close to mine. From the over-excited way he talked, although I had never met him, he sounded like a nerd. I knew this was very critical, but it was only my viewpoint. He could be some hottie all the girls would fall for, but I believed there was about a 2% chance that would happen.
After reading that his dad was a movie producer, and a probably rich one at that, I guessed that Nick would be a stuck-up snob. But he didn't sound like that. I thought that when I met him, Nick would be nice in person, even if he was a nerd. I hoped he wouldn't follow me around everywhere, assuming he had some classes with me, because then we would become "the item" of the senior class. This reminded me of my ex-boyfriend from last year. His name was Emmett, and we had been together for six months. I dumped him at the end-of-year Junior Prom because I had caught him cheating on me, and this broke my heart. "Ugh", I muttered. I almost slapped myself for wistfully thinking about Emmett, because he was the past, and I should have just forgotten about him. I snuck a look at the clock on my bedside table. It was already 10:30! i had spent an hour Instant Messaging Nick! I yawned. I was truly tired now. I walked out of my room, feeling disoriented.
" 'Night mom! 'Night dad!", I yelled to my parents.
"Goodnight sweetheart. I'll see you tomorrow morning!", my mom called back.
I sluggishly walked back into my room and fell onto my downy pillows. I was asleep in seconds.
Chapter 2: Thinking Too Much
Rosalie
I woke up to hear the impatient shrieking of my 13-year old sister, Alice. "ROSALIE ANN FOWKES!" she screamed. I groaned and took a peek at my digital clock. It was only 5:30 in the morning, and my alarm hadn't even gone off yet! Alice was already awake, and her school starts after mine. Then I realized why she was already up. Alice loves to help me get ready for school in the mornings, rather than it being the other way around. She is a fashion freak. I looked up to see my bedroom door being opened, and Alice strode in. She was already dressed, and her black curls bounced as she walked. Alice was a morning person without any coffee, so it was natural for her to be perky this early. "Rose!" she moaned. "Hurry up, or I won't have time to get you ready!!!! You don't want to look ugly on your first day of school!!!" Shit. I had completely forgotten that I had school today, still thinking about the conversation between Nick and I last night. I shook my head wildly, trying to stop thinking about it.
"Alice, calm down, I'm up!" I rolled out of bed and accidentally stepped on Ginger, my golden retriever, who was sleeping on my carpet. She yelped and jumped awake. "Morning, Ginger," I mumbled before stumbling over to the bathroom. After I was showered, I came out to find the outfit Alice had helped me pick out the night before lying on my bed. I also noticed that my bed was made, and I made a mental note to thank Alice later. Suddenly, my alarm finally went off, after I was awake thanks to Alice. I quickly stepped over and turned it off. I then put on the outfit, which was a pair of plaid bermuda shorts and a blue V-neck tee, as it would be warm today. I walked out of my room only to run back into Alice's clutches.
"Okay, Rosalie, let's start with your hair! Makeup and accesories can come later," she said, an expression on her face, which is one I know only too well; she wears it before she gives me a huge makeover. I groaned again. I love Alice to death, but sometimes she goes way overboard with fashion! Alice started blow drying my caramel colored hair, hopping around me to get every last strand dry. She then straightened it, and put a clip in to keep my side bangs out of my face. "Don't look yet! I have to finish everything else first!" Alice scolded me. "I'm gong to start with your makeup now." She applied a small bit of blush to my pale cheeks, light blue eyeshadow and eyeliner to match my outfit, and finally some clear lip gloss. Alice didn't give me any mascara though, because my eyelashes are so long that there is no need. She handed me my favorite silver necklace, which had been a present from Emmett. I still wore it only because I loved it, not him, and it would be a complete waste not to. Alice picked up my charm bracelet from the top of my dresser, and gave me my sapphire stud earrings to put in. "Rosie, I'm finished! You can look now!" I turned toward to mirror and was amazed. As always, Alice had made me look beautiful!
"Thanks, Alice! You did a great job!" Alice looked smug, and I rolled my eyes. "Okay, then, let's go get some breakfast!" I checked the clock, and it was 6:45, which means that school starts in an hour. "Hey, Alice, do you think that you could walk Ginger this morning? I'm running a little late, and I have to pick Sharon and Lily up also." She nodded, then we both headed downstairs for breakfast.
When we came downstairs, our mom was waiting for us. The warm aroma of eggs wafted through the air, the scent of mom's good cooking. What would I ever do without my mother? I told my mother a quick good morning, then began to wolf down the eggs and toast waiting for me. I gulped down some orange juice, and was done within minutes! Whe I was done, I rushed to the sink and washed my plate off. I quickly put on my favorite shoes, which are my blue striped converse. I grabbed my lunch, my bag, and everything else I would need for school today. "Bye, Mom! Bye, Alice! And tell Dad that I said bye, too!"
When I reached my car, I plugged my iPod into the speakers, and the chose the album "A Little Bit Longer" by the Jonas Brothers. "BB Good" started playing, and I was content. I started the car and took the route to Lily's house. On the way, I hummed along to whatever Jonas Brothers song was playing. I arrived at Lily's house to find her waiting for me on the driveway. Lily is a morning person, but unlike Alice she needs coffee to keep her awake. As soon as Lily sat in shotgun, she started babbling about our mall trip yesterday, and how we should go again. After that, she started talking about random things, and I became bored. While she talked and talked and talked, I just nodded randomly to pretend that I was following,
"Don't you just hate that, Rose? Rose?" Lily asked.
"Huh, What? Sorry Lil, I wasn't listening." I actually had been thinking about seeing Nick in school today. Yikes! I really had to stop thinking about him.
"Okay, Rose. So I was saying...." But Lily didn't get a chance to finish her sentence, since we had arrived at Sharon's. She wasn't waiting outside as usual. Sharon isn't a morning person, and I guessed that she had woken up late and was rushing to get ready. I was just about to go inside and get her, when Sharon rushed outside,
Sharon was runnning to my car, stumbling every now and then. She was carrying a coffee in one hand, and her bag was falling off her shoulder. She reached the car and was about to sit down. "Crap! I forgot my cell phone! Can you wait please?" Sharon asked. We nodded, and she rushed back into her house, only to come back out a few seconds later. She sat in the back of the car since Lily had shotgun, and began to organize her stuff. "Sorry guys, I slept in late today," Sharon said. I smiled, my, theory was right. "I didn't even greet you properly! Good morning, my dearest Rosalie, and good morning my dearest Lily! How are our fine ladies this morning?"
We all laughed at Sharon's silly theatrics. I started the car again, and continued on the route to school. Sharon didn't start talking like Lily had when she had come to the car, because Sharon is a quiet person. Lily was quick to fill in the silence by filling Sharon in on what we had been talking about. I tuned Lily out again, and started to think about Nick. I imagined what he would look like. He might have slightly tanned skin from living under the sun in Los Angeles, light brown hair, and clear blue eyes. He would be a gentlemen, always offering to escort me to classes. He would be funny and kind. All of a sudden, a voice jerked me out of my thoughts. This voice reminded me to stop thinking so much about Nick, because I didn't even know him! Well, barely.
"Rose! We're almost at school! Slow down!" Lily yelled in my face. Shit, I thought again. School. That also meant that I would see Nick in a matter of minutes! I felt a strong desire to meet Nick, which was very weird. This feeling was mixed in with another emotion. Fear? But why would I be scared of meeting Nick? He seemed nice in our last conversation....
I was suddenly aware that I had parked. Sharon and Lily were getting out of the car. School. Nick. Double shit!
